I had a memory of this former coworker my boyfriend and I both used to work with. They were also kind of like good work friends. Before we got into a relationship, I knew Bob had a crush on me. He gave signs but he never actually initiated anything.
We all relocated within work then ended up in the same location again. After Bob found out we were dating he started acting weird. Said things to him to make him…jealous? Said things like “oh I have a girlfriend now too.” My boyfriend had told me all this. And that Bob would look at me a certain way while I wasn’t looking in-front of him. Another time, his girlfriend came in to visit him, and in front of me it was obvious he was trying to make me jealous by kissing her. I wasn’t jealous, but what bothered me was how obvious it was. It just seemed like he was causing problems for my boyfriend and I.
Bob eventually got fired for giving a free drinks to a girl (who was not his girlfriend). Before the decision was made, there was a Christmas company party. Him and his girlfriend attended, but I also saw that other girl he gave free drinks to alone and all dolled up. They never said hi to each other and would walk right by each other. But that girl had a smile on the whole time even alone.
A year has passed, since then Bob has gotten married and now has twins on the way. My boyfriend was insecure about Bob and I, even asked me if I was jealous of her because he felt there was some attraction between us before. I said why would I be jealous of her. If anything I feel sorry for her.
We always thought Bob was kind of innocent. But what do you guys think he was actually doing? Because he already had a girlfriend and she seems like a good catch. We were always respectful at work so we don’t feel like we did anything to Bob.

My aim on GAG is to decode messy relationship dynamics and call out the red flags people try to ignore. 😉
Bob wasn’t innocent, he was running ego games. Classic “backup girl” vibes. He liked you, got salty when you chose your boyfriend, then lovebombed his own ego by trying to make you jealous, trigger your boyfriend’s insecurity, and prove he’s “wanted.”
Jealousy display with the girlfriend, free drinks to another girl, secret looks at you… total mind games, not maturity. You did nothing wrong. He just couldn’t handle rejection like a grown man.
