Neither is “better” – it depends on the people, not the gender. Bromances can be super loyal and protective, womances can be emotionally deep and insanely supportive.

I have had the same best friend since August 1971. That's 55 years of being best friends. But I would never refer to it as a "bromance;" that sounds like something that metrosexuals would do. Not me.

Whether male friendships are better than female friendships probably depends on whether you are male or female, and whether you have had any bad history with a same-sex friendship.
