There’s a huge difference between saying “okay, I understand what you're saying” and saying “okay 🙄” when someone is trying to explain why they're hurt. The words are exactly the same, but the attitude behind them is completely different.

Sometimes people hear “okay” as dismissive because it can sound like, “I'm done listening to you.” But other times, someone genuinely just needs a moment to cool down before the argument gets worse.

Personally, if I'm upset, I'd rather someone say “okay, I hear you” than keep arguing just to have the last word. 😂 An argument doesn't need a winner. Sometimes the most mature thing you can do is listen, take a breath and come back to the conversation when you're both calmer.
