Don't you think just replying with "ok" is extremely rude?

Just recently I noticed that some people say "ok" when someone is saying something they're not interested in... for example, one of my teachers just said "okay" anytime another teacher or student would talk about themselves. Like they'd give a little story and then she'd just smile and say "oh okay." Like come on you can think of something better to say right?
I have two friends who just picked this up. I was texting one about how I was annoyed about something and she just said "Okayyyy" like wtf?
And I just sent a text to another friend telling her about something I saw on TV and she just said "lmao ok." Seriously if you're completely uninterested just say something else. Its not hard to be polite. I just think this is the rudest thing that people apparently do very often.
Anyone do it? Or hate it?

I'd rather be ignored. If someone is like "so I'm going to this wedding tomorrow..." if you're just gonna say "ok" just don't say anything at all. How hard is it to fudge something like "oh cool" or "that's great"

Yes it is a bit rude, however, it is not as rude as k or kk that really anoys me.

Ikr. I hate it too. Once I told someone that i went to a wedding the other day and the food was delicious and they were just like "ok" LIKE BRUH if you're not interested at least be polite. You can just write something along the lines of " oh, that's cool" or "That's great!" I don't know if people do it intentionally or not. I personally never reply with "ok" even if I'm not interested, i always put up more questions like "Oh cool, what was the food there?" To at least seem polite and not just cutting them off with "OK"

I'm like that my reply are always limited to okay, ok, k, y, yes, no and trust me i'm not being rude its just the way i normally reply unless if you ask me a question that needs a longer reply

It is pretty annoying depending on how it's being said, and it was definitely rude in the cases you mentioned. Like LAD323 said though, it depends highly on the context.

I didn't say it was "good" it probably just means that they either don't know what else to say or aren't sure how to respond. But, I just personally wouldn't consider it to be "rude." Just my opinion.
