Why do people cheat and pretend they did nothing wrong?

My aim here on GAG is to decode messy relationship behavior so you don’t lose your mind over it.

People cheat and then act innocent because their ego is fragile. They want the thrill without the guilt. So they deny, minimize, blame you, or rewrite history to protect their image. That’s textbook gaslighting and a giant red flag.

Cheating is never an “accident,” it’s a choice.

Depends on relationship conditions. If cheating is allowed they can cheat otherwise it's an instant deal breaker.
Generally it's always people who think they are the better part of a couple and their partner must be grateful and allow any humiliation just because they are with the greatest person together.

Many men want to see themselves as good people. When their behavior conflicts with that image, some rewrite the story rather than accept responsibility.

Brass neckery. I've really only noticed women doing this. I've been in conversations with other women who've cheated explaining it away and giving all sorts of reasons for cheating on the father of their kids and husbands and shacking up with another man

All om thinking os that your a shitty person that can't be trusted.

[Abbycado]

Because they are dirtbags.

[ChicoFromThe305]

[TonyMetal___1986]

So they appear innocent

[Alex-Snow]

Because they are loosers

[Danny_dan92]

Because they lack accountability

[Pterodon]

No sense of guilt
