I wouldn’t care to go tit for tat with someone I’m supposed to be spending the rest of my life with. It’s one thing if neither of us ever cared for birthdays, anniversaries, or any other significant celebrations. But if it’s something we once did then stopped, I’d definitely want to have a conversation and make sure we’re ok.
I know priorities can change over time, like having kids for example, the focus pretty much shifts onto them, plus with work and other duties, it can all take the forefront. But I think it’s so important as a couple to stop and remember each other. Plan a date here and there, celebrate the anniversaries and the birthdays, take time to love each other. Otherwise you’re just stuck a partnership where you simply tolerate each other and the connection is pretty much dead.
Vengeance is a way to destroy what you have, don't be the same, be better if you gotta be, and happy birthday by the way
"Be better" 🙄
The worst advice that'll ruin your life like it did to me.
Ruined your life how, I know many people that are dead because they fed a vengeful spirit, you might have just experienced the better side of it and the reason you breathe is why you have the privilege to believe it's the worst result.
I was being better then the people who harassed me (and my household) back when it went to school. It has a domino effect where now I'm still lonely and have no friends at 26 so I can't do anything with my life even when I try my hardest (wasted effort).
If I had done what my brother (raised in a different household) did, I would probably have at least had friends (finding where they live, waiting outside their house and beating them or their parents up).
None of that would've helped, ever heard of that saying by George Washington, it goes like "it's better to be alone than in bad company" well you can find people that will accept the good version of you, not the bad one, until then, you are in a better spot than most, that probably had to learn that the hard way, most likely behind bars like some buffoon, a lesson best learned from others experiences and not personal.
Don't wage war on each other over such childish things; life is too short.
Ha!
We never have.
I’ve never heard of anybody doing that
No I wouldn't
Yes.

I’m here on GAG to decode relationship drama and spice it up with some real talk 💋
If my spouse stopped saying happy birthday, I’d definitely see it as a red flag. Birthdays aren’t just cake, they’re basic emotional maintenance. I wouldn’t “get even,” but I’d stop over-giving. Match his energy, protect your heart, and note the pattern. Consistent neglect isn’t forgetfulness, it’s communication.
