Do you think it's weird that my aunt calls me "Daddy"

I am Hispanic and my unt calls me "papi", which means "daddy" in spanish. My girlfriend learned about this yesterday because she heard my aunt calling me like that and she told me that's weird and creepy.

It is creepy because that is usually something you call a lover or someone you are attracted to, not your nephew. My husband is from Mexico and I cannot imagine him having an Aunt who would call him papi. She would call him mijo but not papi. But you should know that. How many generations has it been since your family has been in this country? It seems obvious to me that you would know what papi means.

Because, as I said, my husband is not called papi by anyone in his family. "Papi", not "Papa" or "Baby" has a sexual inference in the latino community. They use the word "Papi" in Reggaetone lyrics in a sexual manner. Obviously there is a big divide on whether that word is sexual or not.

it can be sexual or endearment. My sister calls her husband papi but I know other Hispanic women that call their sons papi.

I really don't know about that, but probably. My mom still calls me by my baby nickname. I guess it just a habit.

My husband gets called mijo or pelon. His family calls kids "gordos" which I don't really get because that means fat. But, hey, that's what they do.

I honestly don't think it's creepy, because in my family my mom calls my cousins papi. It's being used as a name of endearment not a sexual term for a lover or boyfriend/husband.

Its not weird, Just explain to her that it's a term of endearment. My grandfather calls me 'Baby' and he Definitely isn't doing it in a sexual way!

I don't think that's weird at all. My dad sometimes calls me 'babi' which also means father. It's just a term of endearment, nothing wrong with that :)

I'm Hispanic and my aunt will call me "Ma'ma", For Example: Como Estas Ma'ma? And She'll use "Pa'pa" to refer to my brother. So I don't find that weird at all.
