People are jealous and want what they can't have. The taken person already has the qualities to be a great bf/gf/husband/wife. That's why they're in a relationship in the first place! Until someone thinks its OK to steal the person away from the relationship. In that sense, I guess you apply the saying 'all's fair in love and war' if you have no boundaries.
Yea...I wouldn't recommend lying though. The chances of the guy chasing a taken girl is slim unless he has a big ego and no morals. IMO, just tell the guy that you're single. I don't think you want to start dating a guy based on a LIE and in the end, it may blow up in your face.
They usually don't. A guy likes a girl for her features, etc. Whether or not the girl happens to already be in a relationship is just some side-information. It's not a consequence, but it's a coincidence.
However, sometimes people remain close "friendships/acquaintances" with a member of the opposite gender, despite not knowing that too close, and it gets closer to a relationship. Even if a guy happens to find out that a girl is already in a relationship, he's unlikely to give up his feelings for her. Also, some people have a certain fascination for the illicit.

Guys don't like girls because they are in a relationship. They are constantly in a relationship because guys like her. You're confusing the causality.
If you said you had a boyfriend it wouldn't make me want you any more or less than I already did, but it would make me be less inclined to hit on you.
The guy that said that was likely joking. I've never heard of a guy who finds girls with boyfriends hotter unless they are just douches that want a challenge.
It's a huge CHALLENGE to the guy in question (and ego-boost if he's successful).
Any guy that goes for girls who are taken don't want to seriously date her, cauz if he took her from someone else, someone can take her from HIM.
Although it seems like girls do this more on average than guys.
If you lie saying you have a boyfriend when you don't, you'll attract more doucebags guys, if that's what you want.
I don't particularly go for "taken" women. If a woman is hot, she's hot no matter her social status. However, because of her relationship, a taken woman will not get as much attention from me. I don't like or try to break up relationships...
They're not. Why would you? When there is so many attractive single women around it's jstu not worht the hassle. It's just your perception or rare exceptions.
Human nature is to always want what you can't/don't have. Another school of thought is the basic idea that you simply cannot control who you fall for.
