I'm 16, he's 22...should we be together?

I met him online and we just connected right away. He's really sweet and caring and I know the age gap is really weird but I can't imagine leaving him! We've known each other for a week and we're long distance now because he's doing a job thing but he's visiting soon. We obviously can't put our relationship on hold for 2 years and we've already talked about being more serious...but he thinks I'm 17. What should I do?

I have a girl friend (just to specify, a friend that's a girl :P) who started dating her 22 year old boyfriend when she was 16, they met on the bus, both lied about their ages and are still together one year later. Age difference in my mind, isn't that big of a deal, if you like each other then go ahead. Just a little word of warning, the first time you meet him, do it in a public place, just in case ^^

As for the legal side, coming from the UK I have no idea about US laws, but I would imagine as long as you don't have sex you're fine, so carry on I say! ^^

Definitely not. Besides the dangers of online connections, the age gap is not only large but also illegal.

Yes, he may be sweet, caring, all that stuff, but this just immediately sounds like the type of manipulating an older guy does to get you to trust him.

Assuming you are in the USA there is a serious legal issue. He can be imprisoned with a felony conviction for having intimate relationships with anyone under 18. If you are in any way physical with him before your 18th birthday you put him in serious danger.

The age of consent is 16 in most US states.

You have known him for a week and he doesn't even know your real age, so you are not that invested in each other yet. I wouldn't get that worked up over a guy that you just met online. You need to look up the laws in your state and make sure it won't ruin his life. If he could go to jail and he is still willing to date a girl he just met online, then that should be a warning sign, that he is a creeper.

I've been talking to a 16 year old for 2.5 years now and I'm 21. She's awesome. We talk on the phone, play on Xbox LIVE together, and stuff like that.

Look up "Age of Consent" if you're concerned.
