Why do southern people seem to love blond hair and blue eyes?

I've had a discussion with a friend from South America about this because I wanted to dye my natural blond hair to black. When I said that dark hair is the prettiest to me and that blond hair & blue eyes look boring, he very much disagreed. He said he loves blondes and that most guys in south America love blondes and especially blue eyes.

why is that?

I've never been to South America myself, however I did experience something similar in Italy, Spain, Turkey and Tunesia.

i can only speak for italians cause I am an italian myself and I have been there a lot andmy friends and exes are italians. if you are an italian they want you to be have dark hair, not black but dark brown. if you are and tourist and want to get laid being blond is a good one cause blondes means easy. There are pleny of swedes, brits, germans and dutch that goes to italy to party and sleep around and when we think of those nationalities we think blond. And I think the same goes for greeks, I have a male greek friend that I was kinda involved with and when I bleached my hair he begged me please please I want you as a brunette. I think the saying having fun wth blondes and marry a brunette applies for us from southern Europe.

In different cultures and areas it isn't uncommon for people to find what isn't common around them, to be the most attractive. Lots of people in Asia find blond hair and blue eyes attractive whereas in some places where it is very common like Lithuania, it isn't as desired because the majority of people have it naturally.

Therefore they prefer what isn't common around them, dark hair and dark eyes. But then again this is all a generalisation. Your friend can't speak for all South Americans because everybody likes something different.

because it's different...but I am from America and I think light hair is very pretty...and I think if you have naturally light hair you would look washed out with dark hair, just consider that

You can thank our media for this. They peddle the idea that the ideal attractive woman is white, blond, very thin, and blue eyes. An a lot of people buy into it, men and women. Many women strive to achieve this look, many men consider it the ultimate status symbol to have a blue-eyed blond.

Not all people have bought into it though, many have different preferences. I for one prefer black hair, because I am a dirty blond myself, I have blue eyes, thus I prefer brown eyes. Indeed, my physical traits almost make me a perfect Aryan lol.

Do what you want, whatever you like and prefer. If you dye your hair black, for one, you'll eliminate many of those men seeking only a trophy.

Blond hair and blue eyes isn't very common. Dark hair with brown eyes is.

Pretty much. Blond and blue are both recessive gene's. So they seem more attractive to people than the more common sights. But if you really want to dye your hair, then do it.
