Do you think the 'learning curve' exists early on in relationships?

I've been with my boyfriend for a few months and we're happy at the moment, with a lot of chemistry and we get along great. My friends, however, say he should be a better boyfriend and I still have to work on 'shaping' him more. They said a 'good boyfriend' should definitely feel he has to pick up his girlfriend when going out for dinner or to the movies, for example.

Do you agree that at the beginning of a relationship there's a learning curve, in which both individuals learn more about what goes and what doesn't in terms of what the other finds annoying, consent, turn-ons/turn-offs, etc?
