New "Women In Islam" book!

Somebody asked me a question, which urged me to start writing this book. Not only that is what urged me, but I've just seen so many misconceptions people have about our religion, Islam, and the Muslim women, so I just wanted to clear them up. :)

You know Arabic is a very difficult language, it took me 5 years to learn the language ( still). I'm not arab and my native language isn't arabic, but my parents encouraged me to learn several languages.
I remember that one time my arabic teacher was reading a poetry line in arabic and my god how difficult that was , the poet used the word : hit in arabic but not to be taken literraly like : hit an example in arabic is translated to : set an example. I asked the teacher : Sir, how can we hit an example? she laughed and said : not hit as a physical act of violence but "hit" like any other arabic word has different connotations. She hand me the arabic dictionnary and i felt so embarassed LOL the vocabulary of Modern Standard Arabic is no more complex than the vocabulary of any other modern language, but the ancient one.. Oh boi.. my arabic teacher was the best teacher ever !!! such a great experience !!

All I know is humpty dumpmty fell off a wall. And I prayed for fools ol humpty. He didn’t make it. I’m not ignorant about biblical teachings. The founding fathers based this country on that yet they interpreted it as that’s ok. Or how about Salem and he witch hunt. Religion is and always will be a way to control the masses. Hence Catholic Church and there holdings. If you can’t put together how this country and why it came to be yet had the same laws as other religions I suggest you study your history. Most of the Bible is referring to specific times and places not globally over 2000 years. It’s called context. Or you can take the bible with the internet mentality. It’s o the internet it must be real. It’s its in the Bible it must be real. It’s on tv it must be real. Yes Islam and Christianity had there split with Shem one Noah’s sons. But god did smite more than any other god I’ve read about. Women and children so I guess he’s or pro choice? His choice. and if he wants love so badly that he can’t handle rejection he must be insecure. So many human qualities aren’t there.

As an American even I’ve had things said to me asking if I was an terrorist and things like that. Islam is a peaceful religion with extremist and Christianity has the same extremist as well. I’m the end I don’t know wha there is to fight about

I guess as you said, the Qur'an is misconstrued, therefore that sparks controversy. But rather than getting upset about it, I feel as a Muslim girl, I need to explain things to people so they become more educated and realise we're not all bad. :)

The correct verse in the Quran is

“As to those women on whose part you see ill‑conduct, admonish them (first), (next) refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allaah is Ever Most High, Most Great”

One thing that people forgot to point out is that a husband is not allowed to hit her too harshly in a way that causes a bruise on the skin. Even in the extreme cases where he has good proper reasons to be angry, he must hit lightly in a way that doesn't cause a bruise. He is not allowed to hit her face, he is not allowed to break her bones, he is not allowed to injure her, even in the most extreme cases, he must hit lightly and gently because the intention is not to injure her but to stop her committing a sin or anything that violates her husband's rights.

One person asked Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), "what is the kind of hitting that is not harsh?"
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) replied, "Hitting with a siwaak and the like."

A siwaak is a wooden toothbrush and a man must gently tap it in a way it doesn't leave a bruise because the intention is not to hurt her or humiliate her but to stop her from committing a sin or to stop her from violating a husband's rights.

In conclusion, he can't hit too harshly using a full force in a way that leaves a bruise and secondly, he needs to give a valid reason.

To be honest I disagree. You have a different translation, there is no correct or incorrect verse, but that is just a different translation to the one I got. And translations have been updated, meaning, translated more accurately.

I can't be bothered to talk about this anymore. Even though I am a Muslim, just tell people think what they want to. There is a saying in our language that five fingers can never be equal in another words they can never be the same. In the way, 7 billion people on the planet will never agree with each other. I'm from the middle east and the majority of my country are muslims and they way the quran was explained is false, well surely it has some valid points but fhe way it'a explained it shows that the women is the 100% winner while this is wrong.

For example: it is the duty of a man to take care od his wife and provide for her but the woman can still work anytime she wants?

If a woman wants to leave her job, the man is obliged to spend on her and take care of her and she can go back to work anytime she wants!!!

Enough said and there are a lot more explanations which benefits the woman...

Personally the best was for a successfull happy family is to have the man as the head of the house and the breadwinner while the mother is the housewife and the one who follows her husband and both of them takes care od their kids in a way or another...

Ah very good. My friend is an ex Muslim she says otherwise. I met her in a women's shelter I volunteer in, she was running away from her parents who wanted to take her to Pakistan to marry her cousin.
We get a lot of Muslim women in the shelter usually fleeing abusive husband's, sexual abuse from relatives or forced marraiges.
Of course I know what Muslim men think of non-Muslim girls growing up here in Britain.

So she's basically picking and choosing, to her that line is wrong, so the Quran.

Its like a christian saying 'thou shall not kill' isn't actually a commandment because of all the killing in the bible.

Uh I thought the intro was nice, apart from the negativity spread in it and I get the tone there; being upset and wanting to clear the air on some things.

I don't really know anything about the premise that Islam supports wife-beating and arguments used by those who argue it does (but you mentioned it was that little quote so I'll take that at face value). But the explanation you gave with why it doesn't support that (related to e. g. ambiguous interpretation of an Arabic word) made sense.

Third bit also made lots of sense. I don't necessarily agree with the premise in Islam, but that's not relevant.

So the bits did explain some stuff I had (although it's fair to say knowledge is still extremely limited) no idea about.

#1 that Muslim man is wrong. Muslims are just humans but who are completely brainwashed and possessed by a deciveing cult.
2# if a man isn't obeying this wife, and he keeps disobeying her can she beat him?
And even if this comes after a warning it doesn't Make it any better, it still means according to Muhammed women are slaves. When people owned negro slaves and the slave didn't obey that beated him, if the slave obeyed they wouldn't beat him. Trying to justify such horrible verses is like trying to justify slavery

Nobody's history is perfect. Neither is the Christian's history perfect. And the bible holds violent verses, and verses which seem sexist. Do you see me bashing Christianity? No. Because I know there will be things in the bible which I might not fully understand.

the quran is not anti semitic. Just like in bible who happened to call out "bani israel" the jews who weren't loyal to their god and betrayed the message of their prophet. I don't see how is "god" anti semitic for calling out his creation's bad actions? God (Allah) talked about the hypocrites in islam , does that make him "islamophobe" too? there are muslims in the world just like there are christians, jews, sikh, buddists. Deal with it. Just like the crusades were justified by the bible and the church, this is how terrorism was born. The one who said "slay them" was a character from a story that jesus was telling. The one saying slay them is a king from a fictional example jesus was narrating to his deciples not jesus himself.
