What my policy is on learning - Bible talk

I don’t accept advice from people who give me the facts, I accept advice from people who hint at the facts because I believe God wants us to hunt for our own knowledge and facts and not rely on the previous hard work of others. That is why I do not read very useful mailing lists, I read lists that hint at the truth because I believe God put me on the earth to discover the truth for myself rather than to learn it second hand from somebody else who has done the hard work for me so I do not allow others to interfere with my personal handling of the truth, no matter how intelligent or useful they are. That is my take on learning the facts.

I think I understand where you're coming from. My preference is for people to tell me where to find what I'm looking for. The Lord has shown me many times that a journey to the answer is as important if not more important then the answer itself. A good teacher shows you where to find the answer

What happens when you search for truth and you find a truth that you know to be true, but it conflicts with the biblical narrative? How do you handle that?

I view the bible as allegorical and literary and not necessarily historical or scientific so I seek the God of the bible but I do not worship the bible itself. The bible was edited by flawed humans and might contain minor errors.

I can respect that. Personally I don't believe anymore I gave up the faith a long time ago. But when I did believe I held a very similar view to the contents of the Bible. And I feel Christianity wouldn't get anywhere near as much disrespect if more people felt that way.

I was welcome and respected and admired at church but I left the church because I felt the pastor was too elementary in his teachings and I felt like a show off who went to church to teach instead of to learn - it made me feel immodest so I left.

Well I can understand that. While I don't attend or believe any more there are some things that I still hold from my time as a Christian. Like I really do believe in forgiveness and there are some hymns and scripture and concepts that I like that I try to hold onto because while I dislike religion I still grew up in it and it would be a shame to throw away all of that culture.

One of my favorite verses is 2 Corinthians 5:1

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens

While I don't believe in God I do like the concept that the Christian faith doesn't need a building or a physical place to convene. The faith exists in the believers. In the house not made with hands. I love that concept and feel it can be applied to even secular concepts to create unity in times of strife.

@pajamasam if it conflicts then I ask God but I also go back to older versions of the word as i know that overtime a lot of key teachings have been changed due to translation. I read the codex sintanicas online when I cross reference as they're the older format of the bible known to man 2000 years old to be exact and it's very helpful to under stand how things get mistranslated over time.

I’m referring to moral and relational facts and not historical or scientific ones. A moral fact is that lying hurts people’s feelings.
