One sign of an unsaved Christian, unrighteous Christian, immature Christian and bad Christian is possessiveness, stinginess, jealousy, bitterness, hostility and competitiveness.

A person who refuses to befriend somebody less hard working than themselves, a person who refuses to respect somebody less righteous than themselves, a person who refuses to pray for somebody less religious than themselves, a person who refuses to associate with somebody less intelligent then themselves, a person who refuses to date somebody less beautiful than themselves, all of that is a sign of competition and possessiveness and jealousy and jealous people are not right with God.

Piety is a good sign that they're not understanding the word. But, then again, everyone's journey in Christ is different. All you can do is pray for them.
