Are psychics or medums real? Are they modern day prophets?

Prophet from the old testament were people who spoke on God's behalf. God would talk to them or through an angel or showed them glimpses of the future. The prophets would them communicate this to the people in order to lead them in the right path. But the prophet had no "special powers" of his own that he could use whenever he felt in the mood, it was always God that chose the moments.
Some prophets also performed some miracles, but again it was actually God who performed them through the prophet.

Psychics or mediums say they have the power to do things or miracles or see the future, and they can use it whenever they like.

So it's very different! Prophets receive power from God according to His will, psychics and mediums claim the power its theirs.
