Should Catholic Women Wear a Mantilla?

For those of you that don’t know, mantillas or chapel veils are a head covering that used to be worn by catholic women during mass. It used to be required but after Vatican II it was never discussed on whether or not it should still be required. Most women no longer practice the tradition, but I have seen many younger women starting the tradition back up again. I would love to start wearing one, but my mom things that wearing one is a sign of oppression and that wearing a veil signifies the return of sexism in the church. I don’t see any women in my church who wear one, but I have seen pictures online and different interviews with women who do, and they say wearing a mantilla makes them feel stronger and reminds them of why they come to church. I am not a legal adult so I can’t exactly just show up with one on, and while I’m sure I can find somewhere to buy one on my own I don’t think she would let me wear it without her permission. How do I talk about this with her?
