Is it weird/bad when women wear those scarves around their heads in church?

You don't really see it anymore depending on the religion. But I'm talking about a Christian religion than Muslim.

Ok so here's the deal, I am Christian Orthodox and some orthodox women wear it and some don't. I guess you could say it's old school and no one does it anymore. I never worn it ever but I always found it so pretty and feminine. I wanted to try it. At my church only like two other women wear a scarf.

So last Sunday I wore it and I looked really nice. I felt a bit embarrassed because I was the only one wearing it. No one cared until this older woman I sometimes hangout with got pissed at me for wearing it.

She demanded me to take it off. She was saying I am trying to be Muslim and we are Christian so take it off. I thought it was weird that she was so bothered by what I was wearing. Like its none of her business and why get so worked up?

She started making fun of me and saying it makes my hair look purple. She must be color blind because it was like a red scarf. She got in my head and made me feel bad so I ended up taking it off. I was thinking is it really that big of a deal?

The dress code in the church is simple.

Girls, decent clothes and HEAR/HEAD cover, hat, scarf, cap, any textile or clothing item that is created for/or also for the head.

When it was our Easter, I saw a lot of women without their heads covered, but I also saw some young girls (less than 5) in a sea of people. But I was delighted and I didn't see anyone take them.

It is probably a matter of TRADITION rather than religion, Orthodox countries have some antipathy towards Muslim customs in their country, and this is most noticeable around churches because of history.

Limba e foarte buna, si felicitari pentru reusita de a o invata si ati cunoaste originile.

Sunt o multime de mexicani/tigani in Miami, ca sa stii. Nu sunt sigur daca va deranjeaza tiganii. Miami este considerat a fi un loc periculos, de asemenea. In cea mai mare parte, statele din sud sunt calde, dar depinde unde te duci. Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Carolina de Sud, Louisiana si Florida sunt calde. Pentru lunile de iarna ploua foarte mult in sud. Unele state sunt inchise la minte in ceea ce priveste oamenii care vin din alte tari. Cred ca Florida ar fi asa, este cunoscuta ca fiind conservatoare si acolo locuiesc multe persoane in varsta. Floridenii sunt considerati nebuni.

Am auzit ca se gasesc aligatori in canale si uneori si in piscine "cool".
Tiganii ar fi o problema dar cu ei nu as interactiona, in Romania acestia se pot distinge cu usurinta prin combortament si limbajul abordat cat si atitudinea.
In privinta vremii, nu ma refer la statele confederale din istorie. Ma refer la toate statele din Sud din Florida pana in California. Asta inseamna si Arizona si New Mexico. Pur si simplu nu mai vreau iarna in viata mea. Acum eu locuiesc in UK ploaia e cu mult mai buna decat zapada.

Sudul Californiei ar fi un loc bun de vizitat. Un dezavantaj este ca este una dintre cele mai scumpe zone din tara. Eu as sta departe de Texas, nimic bun nu iese de acolo. Hawaii este, de asemenea, foarte scump, dar frumos. Am auzit ca localnicii au prejudecati impotriva albilor, ceea ce poate fi o problema. Am trecut cu masina prin Phoenix, Arizona si mi s-a parut un loc frumos. Este un oras desertic, iar la acea data, in iulie, erau 43 de grade Celsius. Se spune ca Phoenix este un paradis al pensionarilor. Asta ar putea insemna ca afacerile se inchid mai devreme, daca vrei sa ramai pana tarziu si sa mergi in anumite locuri. Bineinteles insa, in weekend-uri barurile si cluburile ar trebui sa fie deschise. Nu sunt sigur cum este in timpul saptamanii. Oamenii spun ca Arizona are un cost mediu al vietii. Transportul public este destul de inexistent in America, cu exceptia cazului in care mergi in orasele populate. Tineti cont de asta daca decideti sa locuiti intr-un oras mai mic, veti avea nevoie de o masina.

Michigan este un stat in care traiesc multi romani. Dar este unul dintre cele mai reci state. Am vrut doar sa mentionez acest lucru in cazul in care doriti sa fiti in preajma romanilor, ca sa nu fie un soc cultural atat de mare. Altfel, cred ca ar fi rar sa dai peste un roman oriunde. Asa ca a merge la o biserica crestin-ortodoxa romaneasca va fi greu de gasit daca nu te documentezi. Va trebui sa te multumesti cu o biserica ortodoxa rusa sau greaca, pentru ca in America par sa fie mai multe.

Nu doresc sa interactionez cu COMUNITATI de romani, accept un numar limitat si select the romani, in functie de nivelul de educatie, libajul si integrarea lor sociala.
Sunt in UK de aproape 5 ani si am gasit romani la orice colt de strada, chiar si in alte tari Germania, Franta, Italia, Grecia etc. Romana devine aproape limba internationala pentru mine.
Doresc sa ma supun neconditionat oricarei culturi occidentale exceptand religia, cu care sunt dispus sa convietuiesc cu grecii dar nu cu rusi (Rusii sunt pe stil vechi).
De partea nordica si in special apropiata de Canada a tarii SUA/USA nici nu discut, vreau sud cu temperaturi mari si soare, aproape de o mare sau ocean

Mary is one of the most respected figures among both Orthodox and Catholics. Wearing the veil in church is an imitation of her. So, what kind of Orthodox woman was that to say you're acting like "a Muslim" ? Covering the head out of respect goes back way further than Islam as a religion.

You shouldn't have taken it off though. That made her right and you wrong, in her eyes.

Why do women care about being the only person to wear something anyway? Why do they always have to do whatever other women are doing? This is why even in churches girls are wearing crop tops and yoga pants now. Because everyone else is doing it so it can't be "wrong" or "inappropriate".

Olso is not ok to do something just because the majority is doing.
The yoga pants in Orthodox churchs si 100% inapropiate, because all will think you want to shou your shapes (boys and girls).
Majority simply don't care animore, less respect for spirituality, not in the case of you who did something good to wear that.
The preaces like more who come dress elegants and decents, not thous who come to show up whit what they have, body or vlues.

I don't know of the Orthodox have a different name for it, but in the Catholic Church (mostly at Traditional Latin Mass parishes), most of the women wear them during Mass. The proper term is a mantilla, but it's also simply called a chapel veil sometimes. It's a head covering that imitates the covering of the Holy of Holies in the Old Testament. The belief is that sacred and holy things ought to be covered. It's not a "Muslim thing" at all.

That makes sense actually. I need to tell you something else. This last Easter I was helping the church with preparing. The women were decorating the church with flowers. There was this young guy, 19 years old that was helping around the church with the priest. He wasn't doing any work for the meantime and was sitting there bored. I invited him to come help with the flowers. This lady gave me such a bad look for inviting him. Like she only wanted the women to do the flowers or to be around only women or something. She was acting like she doesn't like him even though she doesn't know him. Eventually she opened up to him though once they started talking and I think she likes him now.

Totally depends the country and culture. I went to one church here in my city and the woman in the church wore a head scarf.

Yes I am. Oh ok, I understand you. While it may be popular to wear a headscarf in other countries, it's not too popular in America. Especially women over here fear that headscarves are a way of keeping them down and below men. They dislike wearing it all together. I know the Greek women don't really wear it anymore because of things that happened in history to their country. I go to a Greek Orthodox church because there isn't a Romanian church where I live. Though, Romanian don't wear headscarves anymore anyway, something I noticed. I read up and educated myself about why wearing a headscarf is important. I know why now and I'm going to work harder to not let other women/people influence me to take it off. It is a little nerve-racking, I guess you could say, about being the only one wearing it. Especially, I'm new to wearing the headscarf which is out of character for me.
