Why Do So Many Hope for a Continued Existence in the Afterlife?

Looks Kinda Boring, Doesn't It?
I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. Why isn't this life, the only one we know for sure is real, good enough for some people? I mean, isn't it logical to assume that since we have a beginning in time (i. e. we're born) that upon death our life will just be over, and that will be it?
Why do people crave more? I don't, because I accept the reality that my existence is an anomaly, an improbable statistical fluke, and that I could quite easily have never been born, so I appreciate (or at least try to appreciate) the simple fact that I am here at all.
