Do religious people sacrifice a lot for church?

I remember one winter day when it was at least minus 10 degrees outside, I saw a crowd of female Christian teenagers walking around in skirts after a ceremony at church and I also remember seeing a woman at church, holding a baby in her arms while wearing very high heeled stilettos to attend church service on Sundays. I can’t imagine carrying a baby in stilettos and standing for that long. I also knew a church that had a ceremony exceeding 4 hours and nearly all the woman danced in heels the entire time.

I encouraged my wife to leave mormonism. When fully active in church, it consumed every day of our lives. It proported to be about family when in fact we never saw each other due to the callings (lay clergy assignments) and activities. Oh, and they are super good at tracking people to "bring them back". Using whatever resources available- people you think are your friends, social media, public records, even the post office, to hunt you down. My wife put on a face, but inwardly she was suicidal. It was bad man. Not the way jesus would ever imagine his church to be.

Do you think the Spirtual Path is limited to showing devotuon in a church? This is the limitation of Western Religion. Consider for example the Hindu Devote, he attempts to bring spirituality into every aspect of his Secular life. In that sense you dont consider that you are sacrificing for the church or for Jesus Chirst, you try to live in such a way that in every action you embody the values of spirtual person. That's what it means to be Brahman.

Those women didn't HAVE to wear skirts or heels. Shit i go in sweats and a hoodie with sneakers. The Lord doesn't care how you come dressed as long as it isn't overly revealing. We’ve come to praise him. Thats what he wants. And I don't know if people sacrifice a lot for church. Our church has been canceled since covid hit so some people just watch the sermon on video from home. Now people do go to church during major storms and sicknesses so yes that could be a sacrifice

When I first read your question, I thought it was going to refer to work, abstinence, devotion or something like that. I have a hard time understanding why a church would encourage people to wear anything uncomfortable. I do like to dress up, but wearing stilettos or things that are only to impress someone, is just not how I see the mission of a church! Well I think mission of the church, I like to see people who are handing out food to the hungry or bandages to the tornado victims. Or, a meal where we all get together and bring food in order to serve each other, but the emphasis is on neighborly love.

I'm really not criticizing churches in general, I'm just saying that I just don't understand why people want to have functions that require such things, when it's not necessary to church work.

Many Christian churches to encourage very gendered attire (ladies in skirts and high heels for example). Fewer churches have very long services, but some do. Some may even last more or less all day long.
That being said, a large majority of Christian churches (maybe all? I'm not sure) do encourage you to give up 10% of your money. The word "tithe" literally refers to 1/10th of your annual profit or produce, used to support the church. Now, to my knowledge, few churches actually insist that it is at least 10%, they generally tend to allow you to give what you want, it seems. But I also know that some churches do put a significant amount of emotional/psychological pressure on their congregation to give as much as they can. The tactics can get downright predatory. Thankfully this style of church seems to be much rarer.

I dunno honestly, I used to be the type of person who would go to Church every Sunday, I'm still a religious person, but at some point I just thought to myself, "well, what's wrong with just believing in what I believe on my own terms and worshipping as I feel the need to do so?"

Church is nice and serves a purpose, no doubt. However, at times I just feel like I just need to live my life and set an example for myself rather than trying to rely on others to instruct me on what I should do.

That's just how I feel about it, I occasionally go to church when I feel the need to do so, or when I'm feeling a bit lost, but other than that I go on my own terms when needed.

I visited a Full Gospel Assembly and people would go out and would dance they claim that was the Holy Spirit and when me, my sister's boyfriend, my sister walked into the Church some Woman at the front of the pew was yelling out, Thank you, Jesus, Thank you, Jesus and we asked my sister's boyfriend he said that God was happy we were all there and some were speaking in tongues... I've also visited local Churches in Monongahela PA US where I live.. This is the name of the Church was also called

Sacrifice is of course involved. You sacrifice your time to worship on Sunday. You sacrifice a monetary offering to God to keep the church ministry going. Religion teaches you to sacrifice by humbling yourself and serving others. However, you should do this because you want to serve God and your fellow man, not because you feel obligated or just to put on appearances. Unfortunately, not everyone is sitting in those pews for the right reasons.

A lot of the religion is about self-sacrifice. At least the Catholic upbringing and teachings i was taught. To follow in Christ's footsteps, as it's what he's asking us to do, is to sacrifice oneself as he did. In our own ways and considering our circumstances.

So, yes. If one is truly devout it comes with an immense amount of sacrifice.

Wearing heels has nothing to do with the church service... at least at my church nobody wears them and everyone dresses conservatively and comfortably. The service can indeed be around 3 hours but I like it because our church only meets every other Sunday. Nobody is pressured to "sacrifice" anything, we all come because we want to!

If the women dress for church as though they were non-Christian women going to a nightclub, their conduct shows that there is a serious lack of teaching and correction within that church.
