Do you think Christ would've been pro gun ownership?

Matthew 26, 26:52
"Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword."
But just so we're clear: Jesus was a wuss and Thor would totally kick his ass.
Christ also had nuclear weapons
Quite right.
The OG weapon of mass destruction:
“For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord.”
Exodus 12:12 ESV
@Exterminatore and yet Thor still kicked his ass.

Luke 22:36, Jesus tells His remaining disciples, “If you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” Jesus knew that now was the time when His followers would be threatened, and He upheld their right to self-defense. Just a short time later, Jesus is arrested, and Peter takes a sword and cuts off someone’s ear. Jesus rebukes Peter for that act (verses 49–51). Why? In his zeal to defend the Lord, Peter was standing in the way of God’s will. Jesus had told His disciples multiple times that He must be arrested, put on trial, and die (e. g., Matthew 17:22–23). In other words, Peter acted unwisely in that situation. We must have wisdom regarding when to fight and when not to.

Didn't save him from the jews.
@Mango-man so they want you to think.
Jesus came to help save lives. He told Peter to return his sword to its place after Peter cut off the ear of one of the mob in the garden of Gethsemane. He loved people and commanded that we do the same. Ultimately he would have found a better solution than a gun. When he wins the battle against the devil at Armageddon, it won't be with weapons, and the weapons of the enemy won't even work when they try to use them. In the aftermath, we will beat our swords into plowshares and our spears into pruning shears. Nation will not rise against nation or learn war anymore.
Lol that's cute
You're adorable
There is no explicit prohibition on the possession of weapons, but there is an explicit condemnation of their use (John 18: 10-11). A Christian must always strive for peace (Matthew 5: 9).
A Christian considering purchasing a weapon should prayfully consider whether doing so would help in the peace process. Second, a Christian should possess a weapon only for a purpose that honors God (1 Corinthians 10:23).
A weapon should never be used to kill, only to honor god. Still, a person should reflect on their reasons for owning a weapon. A Christian must abide by local laws, including gun laws. Letter to Romans 13 clearly shows that the governing authorities have been chosen by God and must be respected.
However, a Christian should know that his primary weapon is Christ, not an ar15 or a m60. If you are a Christian you should know that Jesus Christ is your gun, your machine gun, your atomic bomb and you don't need anything else.
I'm not sure if Jesus would have been pro-gun, but He didn't seem to be against people carrying weapons to defend themselves. The Bible records that His apostle Peter carried a sword.
"Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)"
-John 18:10 (NIV translation)
In Luke's version of events, it says:
"When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, 'Lord, should we strike with our swords?' "
-Luke 22:49 (NIV translation)
Note the text says "followers" plural and "swords" plural. So it appears that several if not all of Jesus' apostles were armed. I also don't recall Jesus ever prohibiting carrying weapons.
For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword ⚔️ in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath (Romans4:13).
He believes in righteous war, turning the other cheek, and healing the injured (Peter/sword)-all sound like Righteous War
—Ecclesiastes 3:8 a time for love and a time for hate. a time for war and a time for peace.
No I don´t think so. Though there is a text where either Peter or some other disiciple used a sword I don´t think that could be read as a sign that all Christians should own weapons of their own.
Because not like today there were no police or other self-defense options.
Despite from being ''from Heaven'' - Jesus was much down to earth with his teachings.
I feel that for hunting he would have had no objections.
Although he was more into fish from what we hear.
Anyhow - there's no rule that says ''you can't shoot a fish''.
That's true. Wasn't he also into lamb?
I think, that was only his nickname :)
But I remember a donkey somewhere... heh heh.
Absolutely. Jesus knew there were times when evil had to be checked with force. That is pretty much one of the big tenants of Revelation. Christians have to be able to defend themselves in a world full of sin. There are many examples of armed conflict in the Bible.
No examples involving guns
That's because guns did not exist back then. However, the core concept remains the same regardless of the weapon used. Nice try though
No it doesn't. Guns are much more dangerous in the wrong hands than any other weapon.
Nice try though.
Jesus himself didn't come to fight, but he never discouraged people defending themselves. Not to mention when God gave the Law and the 10 Commandments, he allowed for lethal self defense when people were attacked--and God had the Israelites slaughter the people living in Israel/Palestine.
Someone did anyway
I think there's absolutely no way to know how Jesus would have felt about guns. I also think people who think there's significant evidence one way or the other are just trying to paint Jesus in their own image
Jesus would probably ask, "What's in your heart when you hold a gun? Is it fear, or anger?" Jesus might accept your gun ownership if you fear danger, but would not accept it if hate was in your heart.
America
You got that right. In Cecil county Maryland they pulled a gun in a shitzu with my dad and me in dir ct line of fire. Gun was pointed right at us chest level. I was in fear for my life tbh
No God didn’t want us to be killers!
I believe that God would’ve came down and stopped all the fighting although he could do it from above but I think that God is cool and legit awesome
Which Christ? The one in Revelation fighting G-d’s enemies? Or the one in Matthew 25 and the beatitudes proclaiming love and mercy to everyone?
The same Christ of Matthew 25 that flipped over tables and chased people with whips?
Yeah I think it's fair to say he would be. Pro-gun does not mean pro-violence or pro-war.
Keep your rifle by your side.
@SlightlyEccentric That´s not a pro-gun text because he used a whip to clean god´s house of people called it their own but misused their rights in their. That´s something else than me having a rifle at my home.
See this is why I'm not Christian, bible has way too many contradictions.
@Exterminatore All the verses you listed are about God judging humanity but they are not pro gun verses they just say that god will judge the world and its inhabitants at the end of times.
@Exterminatore Hey sorry. I think I build some misunderstanding between the of us. I didn´t want to make you feel like you have to justify yourself. I can agree with the position in the article as well. I never meant to say that a Christian isn´t allowed to own a gun. I just wouldn´t say that Christ would be part of the NRA or would buy weapons in the modern days.
That doesn´t mean that anybody who´s pro gun owning can´t be a Christian.
Every Christian is some ways influenced by his or her culture, while you come from a culture where it´s legal to own guns, I come from a country where you need for weapon a license like owning that go over a certain length is illegal as well as owning guns/rifles without a license.
So my view of the Bible is influenced by that.
So sorry for the misunderstanding, I didn´t want to make you feel talked down, I just read the Bible from a different perspective and therefore have a different opinion.
Was he against owning a sword? I don't think so. Owning a gun isn't the reason people kill other people - stupidity is. Unfortunately, that's at least half the people on the planet.
Swords are not guns
That is NOT a picture of Jesus!! Let's start there...
Yes it is. It's from the 1st century.
Are you sure I'm pretty sure I read about this in the Bible
Yeah or when Moses hired a construction team to part the Red Sea they had to use some pretty high-tech equipment there they had laser drills and everything
Or how about when Jesus pulled out his double barrel shotgun to defend his home from the Roman soldiers
The bible of course
@cross
All you said is not only hilarious but extremely accurate except for one thing. Moses did not hire a construction crew. The Israelites learned construction while in slavery in Egypt for over 400 years.
However they did lease the construction equipment you mentioned and new historical evidence proves Aaron, Moses brother, was the construction foreman not Moses as most historians and theologians have postulated.
Also they couldn’t have hired a construction crew. New evidence indicates the Israelites were members of the IBEW local 754 labor union and the Red Sea area was a closed union shop.
Luke 22:36
Jesus advocated self-defense.
He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.
No; on the night he was arrested his disciple Peter took a sword to fight for Jesus Christ and Jesus said: "Put your sword down! Those who take up the sword will only die by the sword."(Matthew 26:52).
No. That line about “I come not to bring peace but a sword” does not refer to violence.
What does it refer to then?
Using a metaphorical sword to cut yourself off from family members who don’t embrace Christ
That's a bit grim isn't it...
Kinda
There is a chapter in Luke where Jesus says” if you do not have a sword sell your cloak and go buy one” considering that swords were the sidearms of their day I would say yes
This☝️
He actually is. There is a verse in the Bible about keeping your own weapons in case of the need for rebellion against corrupt rulers. It is Luke 22:36-38
Luke 22:36-38
Now, however,” He told them, “the one with a purse should take it, and likewise a bag; and the one without a sword should sell his cloak and buy one. For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment.”
No mention of guns there.
Guns didn't exist for over 1000 years after jesus was murdered by the jews.
@asker
Let’s use deductive reasoning. If one can own a sword and use it lethally then is there any objection to using a gun with lethal force in regards to self defense? Does it matter if one kills in self defense with a butter knife or machete? What about a meat cleaver vs nail gun? It’s not about the tool used, it’s about the reason and intent it was used. Swords can be paralleled to guns as the principal is one of self defense not technology. In ancient times they used bows and arrows to hunt. Shall we all dispose of our deer rifles now?
It’s not a matter of a gun is not a sword, it’s a matter of why are either being used. Also Jesus lived 2000 years ago. This is 2022 A. D. A. D. being Latin for anno domeni meaning year of our Lord. For the record it was the Roman’s who executed Jesus. The Jews influenced the Roman prefect, Pontious Pilate to do it but it was really more the Romans who killed Jesus to appease the Jews fearing a revolt. That would have been bad for Pilate’s political career.
The swords the Israelites used to conquer the promised land were technologically inferior to the ones at the time of the Roman Empire. The issue is not one of technology.
@Exterminatore ok, let us use deductive reasoning. Suppose a child got hold of a sword, didn't fully comprehend lethality and attempted to slay her peers and teachers. The child would be stopped without amassing a large number of casualties. Now suppose that child got hold of an automatic firearm instead which her father had left leaning against the shed wall...
@asker
Ok. That’s a very legitimate concern and deductive reasoning for having the concern.
First how many mass shootings have been cause by children accessing firearms in such a situation? I think 0. How many where children had unlawful possession of a firearm because their parents allowed it. 2 that I can think of. So that’s a small number. You’d be far more likely to have an accident than a mass shooting in such a case.
That brings me to the next thing. Where I live the law specifically states the ammo and gun must be stored separately and both must be locked. Therefore leaving a gun unlocked and accessible to minors would be illegal. We license people to drive no earlier than 16 because we presume children don’t have the wisdom to be responsible. What we don’t do is remove all the cars from the road to stop a mass vehicular manslaughter, which has in fact happened many times. It’s just the gun issue is much more of a hot button one now.
In states that don’t have similar laws all parents can be held accountable by the law and/sued by victims because leaving a firearm accessible to minors already constitutes a form of criminal neglecance. Such people should be held accountable. If as a 17 year old I get into a fight in high school and hurt someone’s kid my parents could be held liable.
Here’s an idea. If you’re worried about mass shootings, and it’s a legit fear, why not get a gun too? There.’s to ways to do this, either limit everyone from most or all guns, or let everyone have what they want and be responsible for their own protection, knowing, everyone has guns. I choose option B, because a we can see gun control doesn’t work and criminals aren’t the only threat. Invading foreign armies, and tyrannical governments are an issue. What if the Jews in Nazi Germany were all well armed?
Both ways to look at this are legit. Less guns or more guns. I say more guns. The leading cause of death on this planet is other humans.
@asker
www.msn.com/.../ar-BB1gzs1J
That’s stats for the number of drunk driving fatalities in 2021. Says over 10K
Here’s stats for 2021 mass shootings:
en.m.wikipedia.org/.../List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2021
Says 703.
Sounds like we need to ban cars more than guns as they’re way more deadly.
@Exterminatore 703 mass shootings is nothing to be sneezed at. How many mass shootings were there in Japan?
That’s not the point. My point is consistency. If the fear is guns and mass shootings and we should limit guns or eliminate them from the general public as the solution, then we should do the same with cars, or alcohol or both right?
So you’re worried about the mass shooting deaths that only amounted to 703 casualties last year but not the cars or drunks that used cars to kill 10K people?
You can evaluate your own thoughts and motives but that sounds to me like you have a fear of guns and mass shootings, but not cars and drunks driving them that killed far more last year.
@Exterminatore lol "only" 703? Have you seen what a group of 703 people looks like? Some schools don't even have 703 students.
You're avoiding the point with attempted whataboutism. It hasn't worked.
no, he said put away your sword. but now needed gun.
Yes, the right to bear arms was originally intended to fight off the British, who as we all know are employees of Satan.
Yes, he would have a big arsenal at home. He would be a believer of peace through strength.
Jesus didn't even own a sword in his day, despite the country being under Roman occupation.
If you had read his life story you would know the answer...
I've read it. I still don't know
Most likely. His hypocrite father apparently supports murder as a punishment for people who defy him, so...
A political activist who was nailed to a large piece of wood by the state?
I would have thought so.
The Bible is full of stories about people defending themselves, so for self defense the answer is yes.
Christ was for the end of war in general. He wanted peace, so I don't think Christ would want anything to do with war
Jesus would have loved that shit! He could shoot people and then heal them afterwards and then shoot them again
if jesus and his daddy would have done their job properly, guns wouldn't be needed.
Yes definitely, to protect from people possesed by satan,,,
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣 best gag equation I'm along time.
No 🤣🤣🤣 that’s just like jihadi extremists promoting murder of anyone different.
Probably not. Jesus was the ultimate pacifist even until his own demise.
He did say if you have no sword sale your coat to get a sword.
Jesus was more into love and peace he did not strike me as a gun-toting mad man.
Jesus is whatever you want Him to be.
That is completely untrue.
@Exterminatore @Xoirwinkan
TRUE!
This is why 50% of people polled think Jesus would be a violent gun nut... because THEY are twisted gun nuts. Jesus is whatever the fuck you want Him to be. :)
Wrong, because the real Jesus is the one described in the Bible. And the question was nothing about gun nuts. If for the purposes of self defense I would think he would be for it, considering at least some of the disciples carried swords.
@Xoirwinkan People who claim to believe in Jesus supported beating cops to death on January 6th based on sinful lies. Jesus is whatever u want him to be :)
@Exterminatore Jesus is an invention by humans. So my version of him is the one that keeps stupid people from acting on their violent impulses. The version that scares dummies into behaving with the threat of an eternity in Hell if they don't.
No, but that picture is awesome.
If he had a brain in his head.
Pretty sure the Bible character hated all weapons.
Hammers? Can't have that.
@OddBeMe The issue is the bad apple in the bunch scenario. One douche bag who is totally unhinged, screws it over for everyone else? Nah. OK, OK, several douches, over time. Yet 300k lives are saved minimum to who knows how many annual. That number cannot ever be known. So, your chances of dying from the unhinged is like being struck by lightening a couple different times. Risk vs reward. Where does the good lord fit in? I don't care, but to say he does not approve, that's just another level of dumb.
True mass shooters are extremely rare. If you're getting shot your chances are far higher overall with an encounter with law enforcement or gangbangers. And those problems can't be fixed with gun bans but a societal level of better leo registration and fixing broken homes by getting parents to stick together
@t-8900 LEO's are severely under-trained. They cannot be underestimated when it comes to f_cking shit up. Even in rural routine scenarios. Last thing anyone needs is a cop having a panic attack pulling someone over and reacting beyond stupid while someone reaches for insurance/registration or undoing the seatbelt. Nonetheless, it's no reason to not live and go about business as usual. The gangbanger scenario is something that any given person should be scared sh_tless about. They don't care about your life, $3 or $40, they will kill you. How to fix this, is by not being soft on these assholes.
@t-8900 Let me guess, had nothing to do with "systemic racism." White on white.
@OddBeMe deduct the deaths related the gangs, definitely get, etc. Those aren't from legal firearms. Its not good to just look at numbers without context. How many people are getting stabbed every year in the UK? How many people die from hammers every year? Cars are also used in mass killings. If we got rid of guns would that stop the violence? Based on the tactics of notorious gangs like 18th Street and ms13 I'm going to firmly say, no. If it's not guns it's machetes and knives. The most common weapon used in the gang I rolled with were hatchets and axes, not guns. You can't stop the killings anymore then the illegal drug trade. It's a fool's errand tbh. I'm okay with people not owning guns if they don't want. I simply ask them to allow me to choose my own methods for defense of home, self, and family. When 2-3 guys break in I want a gun, not a knife or my dick in my hands. It's scary on e it happens
You will never look at it the same way again. I hope you never have to experience it like I did.
@OddBeMe how so? Prohibition didn't stop alcohol and war on drugs did nothing to stop drugs. Where is this evidence to suggest it? Island nations like uk, Australia etc are bad examples. No on has an unstable border like we do. In Wilmington you can get all the guns you like because they sell them; n the black Market and they are refurbished guns going all the way back to the early 1900's. One of my revolvers was built in 1912 by H&R. It's long been out of the system's registry. Also it's not hard to build/make your own guns. In the USA it's not illegal to make your own guns, just sell them... not that anyone is gonna register a hit piece
@OddBeMe are you serious right now? Both are easy AF to get in highschool lol. What part of the world are you from? Everyone had both in high school. We would polish off fifths of cheap Smirnoff and smoke fatties in school all the damn time. Playing hookie was also very easy
My sister has to get pumped out 3 times. Shrooms, weed, hashies, and ecstacy we're very easy to acquire. I saw my first rock in 8th grade. Weed is small time and hella easy.
Ask who? It's not dude. How can we polish off 5ths and roll fatties and have a problem getting a beer "nimrod"? I was having a normal conversation with you (for once) trying to be civilized and then you attack me over literally nothing. If you didn't want to talk anymore just say so. I was trying to just be civil about it
Define "easy"? I got the local drinks to buy it for us. He would go in and get it. Parents bought it for us too. Drinking isn't even a big deal. I was drinking young as were many I know. No one follows those age restriction laws for minors drinking
Hell I was 16 having drinks with a judge and chief of police. No one gives af. It's all about who you know #1. I mean if you followed those laws around here you'd be seen as a compl square tbh. As I said I wrote about it on gag in the past on a mytake. Drugs and booze from 13-17 till I became Christian
Uh what on earth planet do you live in? Do you own a single gun? We do have regulations
Background checks at time of purchase. Your name, your social go through a background check. You are required to prove place of residence. It doesn't seem to work so well according to you
And without infringement it's literally impossible to do more. How do kids get guns? They crack into the safe, they take them from their parents without consent, etc. Murderous kids can also take mommy and daddys car out to run people over, have many times. They also kill people with knives, which you can't regulate. So really want you're really asking for I'd "Make Psyche Wards Great Again" and to that I'm on board. But getting rid of objects doesn't stop violent crime and murders and the studies have shown that time and time again
The issue is that you blame the object for the crime or you for some reason believe it's the motivation behind it. Yet more often then not when it comes to kids actually divorce plays a bigger role. Or parents that are never around. Ask losers like Elliot Rodger or the columbine kids.
Go to youtube, watch it > HIDDEN CAM: "Gun Show Loophole" Exposed!
@OddBeMe dude you really have no idea what you are talking about. Fun shows DO NOT have loopholes. You cannot legally sell guns to the public without an FFL. I'm into guns, gun sales, defense training. Really, this IS my area of expertise. What you heard from Bernie (sounds like his campaigning bs from back when he ran) is a f*cking straight up LIE! Anyone caught selling like that would get their license revoked, right to have a firearm revoked, and face severe jail time. Illegal gun charges are the worst for your record. Worse than drugs. They do NOT f*ck around with guns like that my man.
Not at gun shows, no. That's illegal. You're also not legally allowed to sell guns to ex cons or those of questionable standing. A vendor is strictly prohibited from selling off the books. They'd get their license revoked and face a hefty fine plus prison time and no longer be able to own firearms. It's not so simple. What's more you are not allowed to sell across state lines or to our of staters
Does Obama eat your asshole and tell you that while Biden licks ice cream off your cock?
@suckmynuts369 I think he's a bit old for Biden.
That link is further reinforcing what I said man. You can't sell to felons or ex felons and none of that shit goes down at a gun show. There are people who sell in parking lots to others
That is not a "gun show loophole" because it's not happening inside the gun show, it's not licensed, and the person selling to a felon or mentally ill person can get charged fyi. People sell prostitution and drugs on craigslist. Doesn't mean it's legal. You can't regulate that no matter how hard you try. People get things and sell under the table. You can buy a gun, scratch off the serial numbers, wipe off the prints, and sell it for 5x what it's worth
Only thing is if you are identified and because they rat you out later and they check and there's no gun... Then you're f*cked. But you can't stop it. I used to get booze but having a drink go in and grab me some booze and he would get a pint on me. When you go to a grocery store you can get high on cans of whip cream. Go to a home Depot and take a can of paint or rubber cement into the bathroom, boom, high. You can't stop the shit. If people want to get high, drunk, or murder someone they can and will have their way.
@OddBeMe they won't, same way with every illegal drug of alcohol sale. This is why the laws are in general quite laughable. It's easy to make your own guns by the way, just saying. I've built 2 .22's and a. 410 before. All could be used as throw aways if anyone wanted to use them to wack somebody. Just like it's illegal to own bombs but anyone can make them. Laws only apply to the law abiding. Criminals are criminals for a reason and gun legislation hurts those good people. Red flag laws have been used gotten people killed where I am from. Lots of fun control laws just get people locked up or fined to shit. Do you live in the hood? Have you ever? I have and I carried guns and knives since I was 12 because homicides, drive bys, rapes, assaults, etc were common. My neighborhood had 9 homicides in it, 5 drive bys, and I lived through 2 home invasions. Ain't no one gonna listen to some nonsensical, dumb ass laws
@OddBeMe no they're not always. Remember the guys who went with ars and shot up that elementary school? and that loser who shot up the movies? Both actually had postings about no guns. People ambush cops. When you open carry you announce what you have and where you have it. For instance some cops are in their cars during lunch or breakfast. Guy walks up from the Blindspot and gets em. They know they are dealing with a cop, they mentally prepared themselves to target and kill the cop. That's not the same thing. 1 cop is far different from 6 good ol boys behind a counter with double stack 1911's and big ass.44 magnums that can encircle and shoot you dead
I've had my life in other people's hands before. Never again! NEVER! Be a victim of you want, I refuse. Don't make this about something virtuous. You don't care if more people get raped or murdered I'd you want to remove their options for defense. So you know how many rapes are stopped with guns? Do you even care? A gun has saved me twice! Twice! Who are you to lecture me?
@OddBeMe What about 2020 was a wake up call? Don't blame us. We knew what would happen as a result of the potato and heels up harris. It's a wake up call for Normies, and idiots that voted for the totally legitimate Potato Heels Up regime in the first place. It's kind of why the Democratic party is imploding.
Thanks for pointing out Hunter has a name in Ukraine too, truthishly I didn't know that. But tell us about Trump's nepotisms on how they relate to Russia, China, or North Korea.
Trumps kids are in Hillary's opinion the greatest thing in the world. In this libtarded day and age the interzones would be lit up like a Christmas tree everywhere if Trump's kids had a scintilla of wrong doing vs the almighty Hunter and the dipshit Hunter brother that died. Enlighten me.
Your bot mentality is on par with Trevor Noah's Biden Insult Bot. How do you keep on coming up with shit that irks everyone's ire? Is it truly a brain? Or the best AI of all times?
Easy. It's called views, values, opinions. There is right and wrong. It's that simple.
Pile it on like a pylon. What do you got? In which you haven't been owned before. That is how rich everything is. Us DEPLORABLES do not love Republicanism. We see it as a means to destruct LIBTARDISM. LIBTARDS do as CNN tells them, along with Hollywood, etc...
We fuck you every chance we get, you try to surmount it, but we are stronger than ever. That's no lie.
You got to be free.
It goes hand in hand. And we are doing it.
No. But they nailed Him to a cross.
No, Jesus was a liberal.
That’d be a sick tattoo 🤩
Literally told his followers to buy a sword.
Yes i do think he would
Lol no
He would answer that by saying are you pro life?
I've no idea
Neither do I
Hell yeah!
No.🙄🙄
No...
