Does the concept of a very serious and furious God sounds unappealing to you personally from both a secular and religious standpoint?

The Bible is very clear God is gracious and loving but also an unimaginable extremely dangerous being that His terror should be avoided at all cost, literally. 😳

When I look at depictions of a deity, I see what is basically a cultural narrative of the time.

Pre-agricultural people like hunter-gatherers will generally have more spread-out beliefs in nature, often as a source of giving.

Most modern depictions stem from the first civilizations. A time of unprecedented authoritarianism.

If you read the old testament and all its rules with this in mind, it becomes pretty obvious that none of this was coming from a divine source in the slightest. Most of the rules were there to enforce early marriage to ensure paternity certainty, and forbid non-reproductive sex. Stoning non-virgins, marrying rapists, etc was all about paternity certainty. Banning homosexuality and non-reproductive sex acts like masturbation or sodomy was all about making sure sex was strictly for reproduction. Perhaps for psychological reasons, but perhaps more to proliferate the society.

So I find most of their ideas about spirituality carry little weight. It's hilariously specific to a particular time and a particular place. "I created the universe, but now I'm upset that in the middle east, there is a member of one of the hornies species on Earth rubbing one out." Yeah. Sure. And I'm sure you're upset that somewhere in your back yard ant colony, there is an ant eating a leaf rather than bringing it back to the colony.

Yes. Hebrew 10:30 “ it is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God”, it means take God serious because although he is slow to anger and doesn’t enjoy you going to hell, his judgment are final and just.

2 chronicles 7:14

God knows us all by name. Bible says he knows the number of hairs on your head. He knows us better then ourselves and has watched us grow up. He loves you million times more then your parents because he formed us and knows our ups and downs and inner thoughts.

here's scenario for you when my father was very young and before he had kids he was in the Coast guard he pulled a double shift and was finishing the graveyard shift climbing down from the tower post he slipped and it was a huge fall one that one should not survive now obviously I said this was before he had kids and I am telling you this story so he survived and I believe this is proof that the Lord does have a sense of humor out of all the things that could have broken my father's fall it was a large fluffy skunk that dear fluffy skunk did not survive but my father did it took him a week in the infirmary station soaking in tomato juice and sauce to get rid of that Stench but if it wasn't for that stinky skunk I wouldn't be here to tell you this story

God isn't human and doesn't think nor feel what you and I feel.

I understand God needs to respect and in the end he has the ultimate power but I was told to see him as a father so to have him be just serious doesn't seem right. I see my biological father as strict but loving and fun thats How I view the Lord too.

Why do humans define "god" with human characteristics?

I once had a professor in a theology class who was teaching the bible from a historical viewpoint.

He was discussing the book of Genisis and the story of creation.

He made this statement jokingly:

"God created man in his own image. And man returned the favor"
