What is your understanding of this verse in the bible?

(Jesus Speaking) “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you, for in this way your father is glorified that you bear much fruit.”

It’s through obedience to Jesus, or in other words living the Christian life not by just head knowledge, that you prove you love God.

James 2:12-17

“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

If you then have actual faith through the proofs of your works by doing, then God will answer your prayers. Not because you are good, but because you have faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9

“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; not by works, so that no one can boast.”

So then it is by grace that you even have the option to be saved through faith. (Actions motivated to obey God). For example God says don’t steal so you don’t steal. However if someone else who doesn’t believe in God also obeys this then it isn’t counted as faith to them because they refuse to accept Jesus as their Lord and savior. Because Good works alone don’t save you or gains favor from God.


By answering your prayers God is glorified because then others can see what God has done for you and can see that God is true through you.
