1 yIn my interpretation, the biblical passage 'Walk with the wise and you will become wise, for he who walks with fools will suffer' (Proverbs 13:20) emphasises the importance of the people I choose to have around me. Personally, I see this teaching as an invitation to seek the company of wise individuals, those who possess wisdom, discernment and moral integrity. I believe that sharing life with such people can contribute to my personal development, helping me to grow and gain wisdom through their experiences and teachings.
At the same time, I recognise the warning in the second verse about avoiding the company of foolish individuals. I think the author warns against the risk of harm or negative consequences when one associates with those who lack judgment, discernment, or moral integrity. Personally, I take this teaching as a reminder to make conscious choices in relationships, seeking to surround myself with people who inspire wisdom rather than harmful influences.
In summary, for me this biblical passage emphasises the powerful impact of relationships on our personal growth and invites us to make wise choices in the people we choose to walk with along the path of life.

1 yPick people to spend time with that are positive, wise, think and avoid drama. Fools don't know they are foollish and be aware, for they can be very confident in their wrongness.
This is old scripture though... old testament Hebrew... pre Jesus. This is not what Jesus said. Jesus sat with the broken hearted including women whom were cast out and abused and one that was ready to be murdered by a bunch of idiots. Was he concerned with their wisdom? No, for the wisdom of the world is foolishness. He was concerned with their hearts, for God is love... not power. Giving them life back and freedom from this "cold" and heartless world was his mission, so they could have eternity.
So you can spend time with less fortunate, sometimes, they have great wisdom to share. Just don't be around people whom are negative more than you can handle, they will suck you dry. Even Jesus dusted off his shoes and walked out of places... for some have ears like gongs.

thanks. I learned from the Bible and from my wife. She does very well with keeping good company. I used to hang with wrong crowd at times and allow them close. bad idea, she helped immensely with that. So have wise mate that knows you and has your back:)! There's some verses about picking a good woman.

That's probably the most accurate testimony of Jesus' ministry I've seen in a LONG time. I wish more Christians would understand what His message was all about. Instead we have people tearing others down and advocating harming other people in His name.
So, thank you. - 1 y
@mobiusforniner Thank you brother! Keep spreading the message, little seeds sprinkled!
1 yIt's just like the proverb, " Birds of the same feather flock together " i mean close to that. So you move with wise person and motivated, you will be impacted with the quality but when you do otherwise, the result will also resemble you moved with.

17A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health. 18Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. 19The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. 20He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. 21Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. 22A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. 23Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
King James Version (KJV)
It's pretty self explanatory.
For example people who want to go base jumping and invite friends: someone dies, perhaps someone who invests in a bad stock convinces friends to do it to: they lose it all. Of course there's the mental aspects of this subject, but...00 ReplyThat you should be careful who you hang around. Make sure they are ones who will lift you up to a better you and not bring you down to places you don’t want to go.
I like this one, 2 Timothy 4:3-4
New International Version
3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.21 ReplyI interpret that to mean, "you are known by the company you keep."
Ever notice that nerds hang out with nerds, jocks with jocks, and sometimes idiots with idiots. Whether the group causes the personality of or the personality attracts the group, I don't know.
For myself, since I hang out with an intelligent crowd, I try very hard to not be the smartest person in the room11 ReplyIrony. Extreme irony.
But putting aside my prejudices for a moment, idiots screw things up without meaning to, so they will cause harm wherever they go without any intention nor hope of improvement. So it is dangerous to be in the company of idiots as, even with the best of intentions, they will still screw things up for themselves and everyone around them.
And that is why I try to avoid anyone who takes the bible seriously.11 Reply
1 yWith this scripture means exactly is pretty much surround yourself with smart intelligent people versus dumbasses. Because if you surround yourself with smart educated people, there's a great chance you're going to become more smart and educated. If you surround yourself around dumbasses, then that is what you're going to become.
And a companion of fools is definitely very harmful because stupidity is very harmful. We see stupidity daily I see stupidity daily I deal with stupidity daily. And if you don't educate stupidity, then stupidity is going to continue to occur. That is the last part of what that verse means00 Reply- 482 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic.
1 yThe people you hang out with often determine who you are. Hang out with good and wise people and you have a good chance of being good and wise yourself.

1 ythe idea is learn from the wise people around you. the second part is probably false and the book is probably not from god.
some if its ideas do not match ecclesiastes so i lean to the side that only ecclesiastes is from god but psalms and proverbs can't be from god because god would not contradict.

1 yBasically it means make sure you choose your friends or who you associate with wisely.. Because often times the influence our entire outlook on life including our decisions. Hanging out with wise people will in term have their wisdom rub off on you. Whereas people get caught up in the wrong crowds and in turn suffer all kinds of consequences..
