Yes, the clergy gets pissy about it and you can get sued, but it's legal here.

The only things illegal to burn or deface are the national flag (it's national indignity) and the photos or images of elected officials, from lowly mayors to the President. You can face up to year in prison for defacing an official's image.

In the US you can burn books, the flag, whatever as long as you don’t cause an environmental problem. In most cities outdoor burning is prohibited because it generates noxious smoke. But no one is going to complain about burning one book.

No it's not illegal to burn a bible, even in Texas. Neither is it illegal to burn a US flag, a Nazi flag, or any other book or flag unless there's a burn ban in affect because of the drought from constant double-digit temperatures and lack of rain.

Just to clarify. It's not illegal to burn your own property (bible, flag, etc.) as long as it is not done in a way that destroys another's property. You can't grab someone's bible from their house and burn it. Nor can you burn down a church because a bible is inside of it and claim that "burning a bible is legal". It's also not legal to burn a person who has memorized a bible. You also can't tattoo the words of the bible on a person and then burn them thinking it's legal to burn a bible.
