As G. K. Chesterton wrote, “It is absurd for the Evolutionist to complain that it is unthinkable for an admittedly unthinkable God to make everything out of nothing, and then pretend that it is more thinkable that nothing should turn itself into everything.”

The paradox is that the atheist is as extreme in his way as is the religious fanatic. Because the atheist sees evil in the world, he jumps to the conclusion that there must therefore be no God.

This presents two problems. First, if there is nothing but the impersonal forces of nature and the laws of physics, then there is no free will. Every thought, every action is predetermined by the intermix of molecular and physical reactions. Nothing can be other than what it is.

The problem then becomes that your belief that God does not exist is then also a simple biochemical molecular reaction. You came to the only conclusion that your physiological structure predetermined you would.

However, if that is true, then your conclusion is no more valid than the opposite conclusion. It was simply the luck of the draw of your brain's electro-chemical reactions and you end up in an intellectual hall of mirrors.

In that connection, atheism tends to premised on a rejection of the idea of God in the absence of proof of His benevolence. This leaves the atheist effectively rejecting only one vision of God - namely the Judeo-Christian version. In truth, there are other conceptions of God. (For example, the ancient Greeks believed that the gods were arbitrary and capricious.)

The second point is that if everything in the universe must have a beginning, then logically something must stand outside the universe to start the universe itself. Chesterton's point stands and is a reflection of Aquinas' view of God as the first cause of all things.

The funny part is that the atheist argues that the universe is more complex than religion. Yet their own explanation is, itself, an oversimplification. Order does not spontaneously come from chaos without something outside itself to impose order. Similarly, if all things existing must start, then something must exist outside of it to start it.

Yet the atheist's problem remains. That the order of existence came from chaos absent something to give it order. It just happened - with the caveat that we don't know how - but it happened within existence because existence is all there is.

That is a paradox - for atheism.

Although it is a spirited indictment of atheism, which of course I do not agree with. But I don't really have time to argue about this now.

I'm afraid I didn't understand what makes you believe in God lol.

Anyway, I hope you and your family are well and that you had a good vacation.

Thanks. By the way, you had a posting on French-US relations that I was going to respond to. However, when I went link to it - I saved the link - it was no longer there.

      What happened?

      Anyhow, hope all is well.

      P. S. In very brief summary. Why I believe in God is that we have predictable order in the universe. Order is impossible without intellect to impose it and with the power to do so. That is God. Go back to that Chesterton quote.

Anyhow, no need to apologize. We had a great vacation but I came back to a pile of work that I am still trying to dig out from.

Oh, let me know about your French/US relations question. What happened to it?

      Hope all is well.

Glad to hear from you, and glad you had a great vacation. I hope you will manage to get out of it for your work. For my question on Franco-American relations Gag decided to delete it giving me the following reason " Your Question has been removed because it lacks relevance and a genuine question our members can address. Your post is not in question format. "

To be honest it's quite frustrating, because the argument to use is not really valid, but I will be delighted if you give me your point of view on my question on Franco-American relations where I asked if France was the USA's oldest enemy, here or in private message. In addition, I had quoted a book by American authors who had written that, perhaps you wanted me to send you back what I had written precisely?

G@G deleted it? Yikes!! It seemed to me to be a fair question.

As far as answering your question, I just glanced at it and don't recall the whole thing. That is why I saved the link so that I could get back to it when I had more time.

When you have time, send me a private message with the question again. As I say, I am up to my armpits, but based on what you send me I will try to answer your question.

Just superficially, my gut level reaction is that the assertion is not true. France was an ally to the United States going back to the Revolutionary War. We were not always allies and there have been tensions.

Further, international relations are about interests and not friendships. Even the Anglo-American "special relationship" has had periods of acute tensions.

Given that, the word "enemy" has to be used advisedly. Where nation's interests coincide, they get along. Where not, they don't. Pretty obvious.

That said, the USA and France, again, have had moments of serious tension. However, overall, the relationship has been cooperative.

Hope that helps. At least a little.

I’m not a believer since im agnostic, but I can answer for those I know they believe. I’ll write a resume of their answer.
They believe because they can’t accept there isn’t anything above the things science can’t explain, there has to be an origin of all, an “invisible engine” that explains the born of universe, the fundamental cause of life and existence. Believing in God justify the following of morals and helps in raising kids with a strong moral.
They also find God existence in all the world: the perfection of nature, the love a mother gives to the son, the good work of an artisan… are all manifestations of God’s supreme intellect.

I told them that the world is more imperfect than perfect, there are wars and conflicts, there are illnesses and deformities also in nature.. so where’s God in all this?
They answered that God is everywhere but gave us humans a perfect machine (the world, nature…) at humanity will and disposition. God doesn’t intervene anymore in the functioning of life since he gave the world to humans. This perfect mechanism has been damaged by evil, so that’s the way these things has started to appear. The moment the evil started damaging the perfection of God’s is with Eve original sin.

    1. Because I found Him and realized He truly exists.

    2. I don't believe we are just randomly here for no reason. I don't believe everything is just one big pointless coincidence and that the only reason we're alive is just work all day in office, making some random jerk rich, while we spend the next 60 years just to pay bills then die.

    3. Everything in this world has a creator. Nothing just randomly poofs into thin air.. someone had to imagine the wheel, the car, tvs, computers etc. First in order to bring them to existence. It's the same with humanity, earth and all the organism that live here. This doesn't apply to God cause He's always been in existence.

    4. Life has a purpose and each person here on earth has been given a person to God. It's matter of finding such purpose God has destined for you.

    5. The Bible has prophesied a lot events that would take place on earth that have been fullfilled /happen. There are more that haven't been occurred yet but will in time.

    6. It all comes down to faith. Faith is a gift from God and anyone can grow and find faith if they try.

Also there literally nebula named after God and it looks 100% like the human replica of an eye. If you don't see that as a sign from God that He is always with us and always watching.. then don't k ow what else to tell. He's always left hints and clues to humanity about His presence.

Not just any God because anything can be anyone's God. Jesus Christ the one who died on the cross for our sins. We believe in him because we have felt him through the Holy Spirit. I believed in God way before but recently these past 3 years I have really experienced him even more. There's a peace that comes from talking to him, praying and worshipping him. I also read the whole Bible about that time frame (2-3 years ago) and I learned a lot and now I don't go clubbing like I once did, I don't get drunk. You are basically born again as anyone can be when and if they choose to follow him. It also requires opening your heart to him to experience him working in you. I feel a peace in my life because I have him. He also gives us wisdom and discernment for any situation

You feel happy, at peace, any addiction you have tends to go away. You start seeing the world through his eyes. You see why there's so much hate, crime in this world. It wasn't until I surrendered my heart to him

I found the value of belief in God and it made me a better person at times… requires constant work and attention to the ❤️.

Religion and belief are dangerous as they can be false and lead a person in wrong and dangerous directions. So be aware of your beliefs and open to challenge and growth but only what speaks to your heart from God… not people. Listen to your heart… and this freedom is required.

As well… you have to face realities of this life and being a human being… we all do…. This leads to face important questions. God is the best answer to that to me as is Christ… i see no better answer. Science to this day…does not work nor does it quench the thirst in the human soul ( that essence that speaks inside us). In my view God makes sense… science is limited.

Good luck on your journey through life.

I wouldn’t call myself religious because I was never raised in a religion and I don’t see any reason to join any organized religion now.

I have my issues with the Christian church despite the fact that I agree with them on many issues.

But I do believe a higher power created the universe and everything in it because to me it looks like it was all designed and fine tuned by a Creator.
From the complex structure of a cell to a galaxy it seems to be me there is a grand design.

If the universe and humans were designed, then the designer is a complete moron. We haven't yet found a single place away from Earth that is habitable. It's possible that the entire universe is uninhabitable except for our minuscule insignificant part of it. And even only a small percentage of that is livable. And if we are talking about humans, then I would ask you to name one part of the human body that couldn't be improved upon.

Because things happened to me, which couldn't have been a coincidence, which spared my life when I could have died or been badly injured. Also you can see a maker just by looking at the heavens above. Psalms 19:1 - "The heavens tell of the glory of God; And their expanse declares the work of His hands."

    - Jesus and other prophets were able to preform miracles

    - prophecies have come to fruition

    - scientists even admit the likelihood and chance of this universe forming with all the scientific data and all the planets 🪐 aligning perfectly, with life on earth, from human beings to animals and the reproductive system and more is incredibly a small chance. Meaning this universe should have been just ashes and dust disintegrated by the massive heat from the Big Bang. You need a creator of intelligence that even humans cannot comprehend the greatness of that gave this universe the life and building blocks.

    - from paranormal activity of ghosts and other oddly encounters around the world that baffle people

yes, god is real, god created the heavens and the earth. When the devil said I will lead people astray forever, God said it will only be until the day of judgement. People can choose their own thinking or believe god’s words.

The reason why any of you disbelieve in God is because you have not found that light within your mind and heart, that understanding of this creation/universe. I'm not a perfect person, I don't want to act like a religious know-it-all. But why is it a Liberal agenda to force feed their beliefs and thinking they are 100% legitimate/correct? Even hard core Christian Republican supporters also have their flaws as well.

One last thing to add, I find it comical that people don't want to believe in God because there are "too many restrictions and rules". Look at society today, how many rules and taxes there are. Anyone reading this, you're telling me 20% interest on a credit card is okay. So to anyone on here reading this, if I give you $200, and if you don't people me back I will charge 20% interest on what you owe, how is that fair? That is stupid. Which means you don't understand God's morals, laws and ethics and you also do not understand this economic system where I have obtained a university degree with an Honours in political science. Studying law, economics, politics, anthropology, gender studies and etc. Currently now, I am doing my grad studies. I know in this era today, someone will read this, report my comment, be butt hurt and try CANCEL me... Uwww, I guess I should look at myself as a Netflix subscription :-o

they taught me to do so. I don't really like following through traditions though. I just want to believe to something to feel a bit reassured. But I don't like church nor wearing a cross. Going to the church on Christmas day or Easter when I haven't really gone on other days cause it's big holiday feels like a routine and I wonder why I have to do this. I tried explaining this to my fam but they don't really get it. So I'll just keep going along.

I'm agnostic, but I'm fascinated by Bible literature.
I would LIKE to believe there is God.

I do have issues with how certain Christian religions interpret God and how they practice their faith. Particularly, I question their understanding of the concept of "Heaven" and "Hell," why they believe in "the Trinity" which makes no sense, and why they follow the old tradition of omitting God's name, which is "Jehovah."

    2) Real Science, including Information Theory and Irreducible Complexity

    3) Logical Argumentation: Cosmological, Ontological Arguments and Moral Arguments. Example: If there is no God then why do we all have moral values and duties and why should anyone obey such constructs if there is no consequences of breaking them?

You can argue in favor of Creation by an Intelligent, Personal God by simply showing that Life without God is a Reducto ad Absurdem.

For example, in order for life to evolve from inanimate matter through abiogenesis and then darwinian evolution to a complete male and female counterpart of a man and a woman (without an intelligent Creator guiding this process,) that is a completely absurd notion which has no basis in science. It violates Entropy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics for starters.

so Creation is necessarily true, because every alternative leaves you believing an absurdly unlikely chain of random events add up to an intelligent human being's existence.

Which makes more sense? One infinite God creating the Universe and everything in it? Or an infinite number of infinitely random universes needed to explain away that Anthropic Principle?

Occam's Razor says one Infinite God makes more sense than an infinite number of infinitely random Universes existing.

I went to Catholic private school K-12 and while I don't like the church I simply have no other explanation for how we and the universe exist. Evolution makes sense but it does not claim to know or understand where the first cell came from. It could be ignorance but I simply have no other answer than God.

I think to question it is wrong itself. Why I Love God is because of everything in my life he has done for me, good or bad, also the holy places I visited and the effects you have once going there.
Also there is no better friend than God, you can always talk to God, tell God your problems, thank God for your accomplishements, for love you are recieving, for health and protection. There is no better relationship.

I just do. It’s faith. Plus sometimes I can feel His presence (except I’m not sure God is male I think He’s really all genders at the same time).

I notice too much balance. Balance that seems deliberate. Also, something bad happens to me every single time I do something bad myself. Every single time. I still treat people the same as I did when I was an atheist, so getting mad at me for my beliefs would be pointless. Go ahead and disagree though, it's a complicated topic. Plus, I don't care if GAG users dislike me.

For the same reason that most of those who dan't believe don't: what I've seen, heard, and experienced tells me it's logically true.

Because there is proof all along us, if we understand that God doesn't mean some noun or person or single thing. I think most people are out there looking for some singular thing and they will never find it.

The world is far to complex to have happened by accident. So between the two scenarios, one of which must be believed in faith, I find divine creator more believable that random generation.

Question to that - do you feel like you deserve those things? Also, do you feel like good things happen to other people who deserve them?

@Ironic_Method I don't feel that anyone deserves essentially random good things. I mean coincidence will obviously sometimes tip in your favor. Also, if you work for something, achieving it is not exactly unexpected. So when I made a concentrated effort to get a girlfriend, it worked. Yet some good things happened in relation to me that I did not make an effort to achieve. These things were also supposed to not work. I had a former friend in college who got mugged and put in a coma. He was hospitalized and not supposed to wake up. Even if he did, the likelihood of him being able to do much of anything was low. He woke up and while he's a bit slower than he was (due to extensive brain damage) he appears mostly normal. So overall, good things happen to everyone. Good things will eventually happen to people who work for them. Yet, at a certain point, the amount of good coincidences become too high for anyone to believe it's just good luck. There has to be some external power working to make it happen. Ask and ye shall receive.

@Ironic_Method They do. Even if they don't recognize them. I am generally regarded as a good person, like more than most people. That's what I'm told, I just do what I do and that's who I am. I don't try to be good, but I guess I am. Not everything has gone the way I wanted it to. A lot hasn't. I also almost died, which most people would consider bad. I was actually supposed to die twice with that. Once before the operation (I think I was either 3 or 6 hours from death). Also I was supposed to be in a PVS after the operation, which I see as dead. Yet I lived, so that's not a bad thing. It's like if a bad thing happened, is there any good side. If your hand got crushed but you got paid more than you thought for putting up a building, then there's a good side to a crushed hand.

They don't get help because they don't ask and believe that it will be done. Also, James 4:3 - "You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures."

@Daniela1982 So why so many babies dying? Sick god you believe in. Many people with diseases pray for it to go away, never does. Why even created all these diseases that kill you?

@Paul09 First of all, some diseases were created by man. Some dug up old shit when it was buried and brought it back up. Why are so many mothers killing their babies these days? not everything is God's doing. God has no obligation to hear the prayers of the unsaved except one. But if you are one of His children he hears. Even Christians don't get their prayers answered all the time. At least not when they want it. He may answer down the line a bit when the timing is right. If you ask for a million dollars I'm pretty sure you won't get it. But even a "no" is an answer to prayer.

Man created god. Not the other way around. Not 1 person Seen him, her, it , yet out if no where humans started to believe? I'm pretty sure Moses was on shrooms. God talking to him lol.
