Why do Catholics get persecuted by atheists?

Why are atheists against Catholic teachings in every way possible? Tell me atheists.

For one thing, humans are generally just plain terrible to each other. This, of course, undermines the goofy idea that religions cause wars, but I digress.

As for Catholics specifically, in some cases, it's because our ideas - or the caricatures, lies about, and misrepresentations thereof - are seen as silly, outdated, or outlandish. In others, it's because we are believed to be a threat to the existing order, that we're secretly plotting to undermine a given government's authority; I have a friend who used to live in China. His dad told me once that the Chinese government didn't care as much about belief in the supernatural and transcendent as they did about a citizen's loyalty to another foreign governing body. And in still others, it's because we contradict the existing order (i. e., in Muslim countries).

Now it's important to remember that many atheists, in their dealings with the Catholic faithful, do approach with benevolence and curiosity and are not at all interested in persecutions. Some are indifferent, and still others are hostile. It just depends on the person.

Persecution is the dogmatic and systematic oppression of a group. Nazis persecuted the Jews, the mentally or physically challenged, and the homosexuals. In the Deep South, the white rednecks persecuted the African Americans. In the Spanish Inquisition... Look up what the Catholics did to heretics, Jews, and Moors. No society, no culture, no ethnicity and no religion has lily-white innocent hands. Everyone has persecuted, and everyone has been persecuted.

Much of the problem I see in my community is that, since Catholicism teaches that the Catholic Church is the One True Faith, there is sometimes a 'holier-than-thou' attitude expressed. This rubs the non-Catholics a bit the wrong way.

I look at your question through the lens of the severity of persecution I've read in history. I do not see persecution of Catholics in the modern world, with the exception of perhaps some of the Communist countries and a few of the Middle-East Nations.

Atheists in most of the world are not putting Catholics on racks, being burnt or branded, drowned or hung in modern society. In my experience, most atheists pretty much leave Catholics alone. That also goes for most Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Jaines, Hindus, Buddhists, and the rest.

My real bottom line is that we are all human. Each religion has some good, some bad, some beauty, and some ugliness. Maybe if we all dropped the idea of 'My Religion is the only Right Religion', sat down with one another and agreed to disagree on the minor points while agreeing to make the world better for ourselves and our decendants.

Then again, we haven't done that in the recorded history of humanity. What gives me the crazy notion that it would be possible now, as divided and polarized we humans are on so many topics.

Payback for torturing and killing them for a few hundred years. You kill them slowly and painfully for not agreeing with the religion, and you have the gall to complain that they mock you? Lol

The Catholics were the ones that amalgamated the new testament from the various scriptures, deciding what did and didn't make it in. They also created pernicious rules for the clergy such as celibacy which has lead to unspeakable acts of perversion being visited upon innocent children.

Catholics are weak in faith and morals. So called atheists are scavengers for the weak and insecure.
