That when you forgive somebody else, your spiritual reward is equal to the degree of sin in your enemy that you chose to overlook or release from punishment. So somebody who forgives a $20 debt will receive double the reward as somebody who forgave a $10 debt in the kingdom of God.
I think it is more complex. In the parable of the talents in Luke 19, they are given responsibility according to their ability. If we expand upon that idea, someone who has nothing and whom forgives a $10 debt has made a far larger sacrifice than someone who would not even notice if he spent $1000. Very much like the story of the Widow's mite in Luke 21, where she gave everything she had so even though it was far, far less an amount than others gave, her sacrifice was far greater.

I am personally not superstitious that way. I am conflicted between "you should lead by example" and "eye for an eye" in human conflict. I feel like there is merit to both of those maxims.
