Hiya Catholic folks.. so I have some resentment over something that happened to me in the past and I’m wondering why you say I have to forgive?

If they’re doing shady business and continue to do it and harm others and don’t do their work honestly and don’t own up to their mistakes, who am I exactly forgiving? Them? Or myself for dwelling? Especially when it hasn’t been resolved and it’ll never be resolved and I’ll never get the justice I deserve.

The Lord's Prayer says this:

forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,

The prayer asks for reciprocity. It asks for His forgiveness according to ours of our trespassers. The Bible also explains the route to forgiveness. That is confession and thus asking the Lord for forgiveness... If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9

It is up to you and who to forgive. Look at your own life and see what has happened for you as a guide of how to proceed. I have a trespasser, adulterous in marriage to me, that I do not express forgiveness but turn it over to G0d's mercy of condemnation.

the judge is jesus not you. "you'll never get justice" has 2 errors u not the judge. and justice will come later.

when we sin god is justified to "resent" but he passes resentment and is willing to forgive those who accept grace and forgive others, so copy god forgive whoever you resented same as god forgives us/you. dont u want him to oveook our flaws?

forgiveness is for us not the meat head who did the crap. We forgive so we can stop carrying it around and let Jesus handle it cause that's what he dose. The other thing is we don't forget who the evil doers are and we never trust them cause we know them and we don't fellowship with them or let them in our house. Christians stand up for our self's we don take crap. I'm willing to kick there nuts

Former catholic. Fuck forgiveness. You have 0 obligation to forgive if you don't want to. But also any deity that offers forgiveness and redemption for someone else who hadn't expressed that, is a piece of shit.

I'm not Catholic first off. But I will tell you what the Bible says about forgiveness. God tells us to love one another. If we only love those who love us, how are we any different than the pagan down the street? Love is the key in every situation. Do not trust people who are bad to you, but love them from afar. And don't hold them captive in your heart. An apology doesn't fix what happened, nothing can, what's done is done. The only thing that matters is what are you going to do right now. If their actions caused you and cause you pain, then forgiveness is what you need. Forgiveness doesn't help the person who did the wrong thing very much, it helps you way more. It's saying, I don't hold anything you did in my heart anymore. You can't hurt me because I choose to love you and forgive you. Now don't be a pushover, and don't be submissive. Stand up for yourself and walk in morality. But the greatest commandments are Love the Lord your God, And Love your neighbor, as you Love yourself. Love yourself, love others, Love God. God loves all his children, he always has and always will. That includes the bad people. In fact it's the sick that need a doctor, not the healthy. The Bible says, be as wise as a serpent! But as gentle as a dove. Forgiveness gives you the power to overcome anything a person does wrongly to you. And makes you impervious. It takes a long time to master, but it's worth it.

Not Catholic, but you're not being asked to forgive them and forget. Rather you're being asked to move on and let them move on while justice does it's work.
