Using the very common example of the oxygen mask in the airplane... if you're going to care for, love, or forgive anyone in the world, you have to first practice on yourself. YOU are the first person you get to know in life. You have to know how to enjoy, appreciate and respect that person before you can wander into the world to interact with others.

As we mature we face so many challenges that knowing how to love, forgive and respect ourselves becomes part of our essential toolkit to maintain a happy, healthy life.

It is important to forgive yourself so you don't go through your like with this heavy burden to carry around.

But as forgiveness goes, it does depend on what you did that you need forgiveness for. That's the caveat here.

Now , there are some you must never forgive themselves , murderers for example , they take that burden though life , till death , never forgiven , and to never forget.
