It's a good question. I took care of my mother who died at 93 last year in the last years of her life. She had dementia.

Her older sister, who is still living, also with dementia will be 99 in a couple of months. I keep thinking I did something wrong because why is her sister still living and she died at 93? It may not be logical, but I can't get it out of my mind.

Even though everyone tells me what a great job I did, I constantly ask myself what I did wrong, what I missed, what I should have done and didn't, and think of all the regrets for the times I got angry at her and said things I didn't mean when my patience just couldn't take anymore. I am normally not like this with anything else in my life. But with this, I can't seem to stop blaming myself.

Some things just take their toll on you.

You'll never be able to forgive yourself until you take a look in the mirror, lock yourself in your room or your car if you have to.

Really dissect what decisions, emotions and habits you have that effected the situation you're in. What was in your control, what wasn't. Be very honest and hard on yourself and then commit to being better.

Forgiving yourself is only truly possible whan you feel like you have the discipline and control to not make the same mistakes again. Everyone should know you can't be mad at yourself for trying your best.

    Forgive myself for what lmao.

Everything wrong that I’ve done was out of stupidity and ignorance. No need to forgive myself. I was a minor under 13.

Tf am I gonna blame my child/ minor self for? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Be careful with this. Guilt is not meant to be penance in itself. It’s supposed to motivate you take action (if you can). If you can’t do anything about then the guilt should motivate you to make better future decisions. But you have to let go of the guilt and commit to being a better person.

But a sick irony of wallowing in guilt is it makes some people go from bad to worse. It’s a clever trick the devil uses.

There may be several reasons why we have difficulty forgiving ourselves. First, we may have high expectations within ourselves and not want to admit our mistakes. Second, we may be under the influence of the reactions we receive from others or society's expectations, which can make it difficult to forgive ourselves. However, it is important to accept that error is part of human nature and to see ourselves as a learning opportunity rather than criticism.

Because we don't really want to do things that we know we will regret later, and when something unforeseen happens, it is difficult to just pass it off... with "oh well"

Because we are ourselves. And we’re 10x harder on us than we should be.

and we think we’re the center of the universe because we’re the center of our own.

Just as its hard to forgive a cheater twice, you are keenly aware of the worst offenses you've committed and they do culminate within your mind

This is just my take. It’s because we have to live with ourselves 24/7 making it impossible not to live with all of our thoughts and feelings.

Depending on what you have done, you may or may not deserve forgiveness.

      @KrakenAttackin
I think if a person has repeatedly done bad things, constantly hurting people, sex sins his whole life, cheater, does drugs, steals money from everyone, etc., he ends up one day admitting he hates himself. After all, he knows all the bad stuff he's done and no, he doesn't deserve forgiveness.

You can’t forgive yourself because you don’t have to forgive yourself because you can just destroy your old self and become your new self.
