Why are there so many bloody verses in the Jewish book and do I have to accept it as a Christian?

I grew up in an atheist family and these days I am researching religions. They said that I have to accept the old testament, which is the most plausible Christianity, but I do not want to accept the supremacy of the Jews and accept those terrible bloody verses.

I have the same reservations and I'm 64 years old.

I'll hear some interpretations that make sense to me, but then I quickly forget them.

I've found Rabbi Manis Friedman to be eloquent in expounding upon some of these stories.

He can be found on YouTube.

His relating of the story of Adam and Eve was extremely thought-provoking to me.

I can't at the moment think of other exact stories that he explores that are more in line with what you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure that they are to be found.

I'll share the verse that I found in The New Testament that changed my life for the better a few years back: 1 John 4: 19 - "We love because first He loved us". It was exactly what I needed at the time, now, and forever.

If the Jewish ways would be ok - then Jesus would not have needed to be sent to update us.

I see the O/T as a collection of texts that give us an idea about who God is. Also: Who (as a Christian) cares about ''Chronicles'' or such. That's merely a Jewish interest. Could be a case of outsiders' infiltration...

Similar to the N/T where texts were selected and included (and/or manipulated/altered?) that merely give an opinion from some guy/s who haven't even MET Jesus. And other texts were ''decided'' to not qualify to be shown in the ''Holy'' Book.

Anyhow: Mankind's history is indeed bloody. There's no need to ignore that.

Christians believe the Bible is the Word Of G0d. I, for one, believe Jesus ushered in a New Dispensation. While there is wisdom in the Old Testament, much of it is history.
