Why does God not allow my feelings for him to go away?

Some would say "god works in mysterious ways". Some will say "god tests us". Others will say "the devil tempts you".

What is the situation and why do you want / need your feelings to go away?

If giving in to your feelings would make you happier, but doom your soul, that sounds like the devil's work to me. I'm no in a position to comment on God's actions.
