In my view, Atheists are not non-believers. They believe against the existence of G0d. Atheists tend to behave like radical fundamentalists in reverse and will be obsessed with confronting and questioning a believer's beliefs negatively. In that way, they will censor any expression or opinion of belief and try to "deprogram" you. I have no problem with Agnostics, because most church goers lean that way anyway and go to church out of habit or tradition without contemplating their beliefs. As an Evangelistic Christian, Agnostics are easy to witness to and possibly bring them into the fold. But you can't act like a committed Atheist and annoy people you know or date, so take it easy.

If you're a dedicated believer, then dating anyone with a different religious (or non-religious) worldview is asking for trouble. These are core beliefs that colour how that person views the world, afterlife, etc. You guys would be arguing all the time, and then if you have kids you'll only confuse them.

Plus, if you genuinely believe in your religion, would you be happy knowing that your partner is going to hell for not being a believer?

The flipside of this is if you're only a 'christian' because your family went to church on Christmas and Easter and maybe you got baptised as a baby. If that's the extent of your dedication (like most catholics, for example), then sure go and date an atheist since it likely won't make a difference.
