Where does consciousness come from?

Found a dead bird on my deck... another victim flying into a window. I wondered... it came here via an egg, it was alive, and now it's lifeless eyes... no longer perceive. It once was conscious in life.

Where does that come from? If nothing goes away, was it recycled from past consciousness?

that's scary, man makes consciousness out of machine or chemical. I suspct man has not made a chemical combo that is alive yet at a cellular level? Only by combination of already existing parts... not like... mixing hydrogen with something else.

that's not scary at all. our minds are already actively being altered and corrupted all the time. PSYOPS, brainwashing and mass conditioning have been conducted for the majority of known human history.

the only thing that makes machines with a consciousness "scary" to us is the frail human mind struggling to come to terms with the fact that it is nothing special.

maybe, but I still agree with what I said. I guess if the universe can make something, we can synthesize it as well. But, most things man makes, are adulterated and worse than nature. Imagine the corruption that can occur with this for selfish purposes.
will men grow their own wife in a test tube? will she have freedom and rights? will the military build robot humans for security and they turn on us?
if we were pure of heart it be another matter.

i don't think what man makes is any worse than nature. nature is pretty bad as is. and tbh i don't see a big difference between a human behind a gun and a machine behind a gun. in fact i think the machine is probably less likely to be corrupted.

well as of yet, machines are not able to do things that they weren't programmed to do. so in that sense they can't be corrupted.

and i would say the more "compute power" your individual brain has, the less succeptible you are to corruption. machines computing power is already far superior to us. so that's why i think even if they end up being able to do something they weren't programmed for, they will probably be less likely to be corrupted, cause they're way smarter than us.

It comes from spirits waiting in afterlife for new physical form in conscious world. But realistically it's just a programming of analog and biological operating system. DNA is capable to store some rudimentary 'programs' in 2 billion genes which are in 99,8% not involved creation of a body. It's probably a part of our DNA like information for immune system about viruses and bacteria proteins which don't exists since hundred millions of year.

interesting answer, but where it come from. so basically some "random" combination of chemicals starts to fire... creates ability to process environment and self... awareness. then it dissipates, like a vapor? We are cells, those cells coagulate to a "self".
I doubt it ever forms exactly like that again, but based on laws of physics... nothing goes away just changes form... that means what was "we" would reform again into a new "us".

It's most likely a byproduct of the brain and cns. Animals with a sense of self are more likely to avoid hazards. Evolution.
