people smart enough to earn nobel prizes are recognized as intelligent NOT "idiots and morons" and yet only 11% identify as atheist or agnostic combined. leaving 89% theist.

most of them identified but 3% did not answer.

65% of total are christians.

20% jews despite far less than 20% of population. 20% of nobel winners were jews. in population less than 1% because 0.2% are jew ethnicity. 18m/8000m=0.002=0.2%.

1% muslim despite being far more than 1% of population. 13% world are muslim but only contributed 1% of significant achievements.
total 86% of those 89 units besides only 11 of atheist and agnostic combined.

Now compare it over time with the general percentage off atheist. I belive nobelprize winners are probably ahteist with a higher probability than the average Citizen for the time. Atheism in a broader mass is a quite new phenomenon. For a while it was looked down upon not being a christian or jew. So a lot of them just said there were to be accepted.

that does not help atheists because they claim condescendingly that they are the "smart intellectual not supersticicous ones" in contrast to the "idiots and morons who have faith with no proof". as that idea influences us all we are surprised to see... MOST most of the intellectualy superior... not of "total population but of the superior" were not atheist.

No. It doesn't surprise me. Because I already know there are plenty of theist... engineers, doctors, whatever.

All it tells me if someone otherwise clever is a theist, is that their field of expertise isn't religion. If they demonstrate good critical thinking skills in their main field, they are not applying those same skills to their god belief.

No. Those are mostly things taught at a young age and embedded in whom they are. What is of more interest would be those that changed opinions once adults and made choice for themselves.

That’s called confirmation bias. These were mostly Nobel laureates for literature. Those who won the prizes for chemistry, physics, biology and medicine were mostly atheists.

Close to 90% of the royal society and American academy identify as atheist or agnostic.

It makes sense. I think science proves intelligent design. Good scientists start with the process and come to a conclusion. Lesser scientists start with a conclusion.

Keep in mind that 11% figure is for the entire 100+ year history of the Nobel Prize.
A more realistic figure, whatever it is, would come from sampling Nobel laureates over the past 40 years.

There's a difference between being smart and having knowledge or awareness.

As people have gained more knowledge and technical awareness, their views have changed. This is why the figure of believers is lower now
I didn't cherry pick anything. I chose scientists because they are generally considered a smart group.

So, the alternative is to look at the population as a whole.

I am not sure this would be satisfactory but religious "disaffiliation" has been on the rise for at least 4 decades...

My statement did not imply they were atheists, you inferred that. They may have been content to call what they believe exists but cannot explain "God" as well, or not, but you can rest assured the vast majority of them don't ascribe to the religious practices of mainstream dogma.
