No and that is among the most misunderstood and mistranslated verses in the scriptures.

It doesn't translate in English what it actually says in Hebrew, nor what it actually was about in its day.

In essence it's saying "don't turn vile like your adversary, and end up being worse than them". You see it all the time these days where people dedicate their lives to "revenge" due to one event. Or one stupid mistake, and fuckwits shoot up schools.

The message is saying to have some perspective, and not fly off the handle at every slight you experience in your life. The other guy is probably having a bad day, or in a worse place than you.

You will feel better tomorrow, that cunt will probably not. Hence if everyone gets angry, then no one gets ahead and wars start. Whereas if even a few step back, and think/forgive instead, then things can be deescalated and progressed.

That's interesting, because I asked a Christian before if a soldier will go to hell if they kill someone on the battlefield and he said, "No, because God permits killing in warfare and self defense." I think that passage you posted is more saying to keep your cool and don't stoop down to their level. Not that's it's a sin to defend yourself.
