Why do some people get punished for self defense?

It’s absolutely ridiculous! Like if someone comes after you with a knife, what are you supposed to do, just stand there and let that person stab you 🤬? If my life’s in danger, I’m going to defend myself whether it’s legal or not.
Like if I was a kid and I was in school, I’d rather defend myself and get expelled than end up in the hospital.

Self defense is a basic human right regardless. A person punishing someone for self defense is to be a capital crime. Pacifism is useless.

Most places allow self defense - when it is actually defending yourself. They do not in general allow violence beyond what is necessary to protect yourself and others, including violence to apprehend your attacker. That gets toward vigalnatism which has a lot of problems

It depends where you are, but I’m the US that’s not the case. The law protects you if you’re acting in self defense.

Excessive force is being questioned. A true self defense is keeping yourself self safe or your dependents safe with no more or less force needed. A duty to retreat is the first step in self defense.

The reality is people abuse self defense to hunt people. They hide out in their open garage with a purse in the middle to blast someone with a shotgun. Booby traps are not self defense in a vacant home.

It is trivially easy to manufacture a situation where you are "defending" yourself against someone else. You could literally be a serial killer by stringing up a series of "self defense" scenarios.
