I've not had one, but when I lost my best friend (years ago) I discovered NDE's and it helped me cope through the grief stage.
An NDE is when a person is classed clinically dead, or going through the process of death - they experience visions or hallucinations of transitioning to the other side and their life flashing before their eyes.
Some describe it as the most peaceful sensation they've experienced, others of intense love and more people explaining it's just as real as any real experience in life.
While others have tippy accounts of recalling conversations (accurately) at the hospital from family members in separate rooms or some reporting whole conversations from the surgery team and the contents of the room (after being clinically classed as dead).
There are plenty of rational scientific explanations for NDE's, although it's still under studied - I still find it fascinating and intriguing.

I never had exactly what you are describing but I was almost killed one night and I experienced something that I still cannot explain. My first job out of high school was in the city about 15-20 miles away. I did not own a car so I hitchhiked to and from work every day. I used to stand on a traffic island that had a blinking light on it and stuck my thumb out after work and usually I could get a ride in 10- 15 minutes. To get to this traffic island I had to cross a busy turnpike. I always looked both ways and ran across. One Friday night in January I ran across and somehow I was struck by a speeding car. I got a glancing blow but it was enough to send me hurtling through the air. I can remember seeing the hiway coming up close and seeing little bits of broken glass and plastic, the result of a thousand rear enders. Months earlier a homeless man was hit near that area and cars just kept running him over, thinking he was a pile of rags. As soon as I was struck, I immediately knew I was dead. I knew I would soon be reduced to a pile of rags. Instead of getting scared, I was strangely calm, thinking it wouldn't be a bad way to go if it didn't hurt too much, besides I wasn't doing anything great with my life anyway. All of a sudden it got quiet. When I looked up everything was bathed in this weird light, sort of like one of those sodium lamps. All the cars were in slow motion as if they were practically frozen. Somehow I got to my feet and finished running across the road. As soon as I got to the other side everything sped up and went back to normal. As if that wasn't weird enough, I felt like I could sense other people who have had similar experiences. Then I could taste my own blood and found that I had bit through my lower lip. I limped for a couple of weeks after that but I never figured out what happened.
I appreciate you sharing your story it's absolutely wild that this happened to you, I found it pretty compelling and interesting.
What a close brush with death (though it certainly sounds like you were for a moment, especially given the impact of the crash). That sensation you described when hit by the car (š®) then being able to get yourself across the road - sounds like your adrenaline took over there. Also, your recount about feeling calm and ready, time slowing, light and enhanced sensitivity towards people is what many people express having with NDE'S
I'm glad you didn't get injured in any permanent way. Awful how that poor man was continually hit like a pile of rags.
I wonder if it changed your attitude or appreciation towards life in any way...
Hitchhiking was a real legit way t get around years ago. I used to be able to get a ride in 10-15 minutes. Sometimes I would get a ride from the same people. This is how I got the name "exitseven".

Yes had unbelievable freak accident where I died three time, spent a month and half in a coma and almost four months in a rehab.. it was unknown to me for the first two months, questionable for about a month, scary and hard work for the next three months, and strange after I came home.
Whaaaat three times, you poor thing! I can't imagine going through that. Glad you got through it as I'm sure the recovery phase and transitioning back into real life was challenging both mentally and physically. I would say anyone who got through that, would have some pretty strong character traits to carry you through. Thanks so much for sharing! āŗļø
Wow to having many close brushes with death and out of body experiences, it must have changed you some way. Experiencing the 'just nothing' part sounds terrifying to me.
The only out of body experience I've had is as a kid and dreaming I could walk around the house... it felt real at the time.
Researchers in the field such as Jeffrey Long, Charlotte Martial, and simply persons who've experienced it themselves, refer to it as Near Death Experience (NDE).
I haven't had one - apparently you know you've had an NDE because you biologically die, experience yourself transitioning to an afterlife and return.
For example, a woman drowned under water for 6 minutes (water rafting), when they got her out she was dead, during this, she could see what everyone was doing and how they were panicking, she then saw a light, followed it and reported being in the presence of god, loved ones that had passed and a whole bunch of other stuff.
It's pretty interesting, also, it seems whatever religion you are into, that's what you'll experience and if an atheist you'll get some sort of cosmic experience. However, all report an overwhelming feeling of love and peace like nothing they have ever felt. Many receive messages or some having new abilities such as playing an instrument (without previous experience)

The scientific community is still trying to understand the pneumonia and believe it may be part of the dying process - like the brain kindly preparing you.
They hypothesized the hallucinations to the depletion of oxygen levels in the blood. They are also reconsidering when a person is actually clinically dead (maybe it's not when the heart stops beating).
While others believe it's absolutely real, that you go to an afterlife when you die.
Seems pretty 50/50 online, whether an NDE experience of going to the afterlife is true and I don't think we will ever know definitively.

Thanks for sharing this paper - deeply sad case the family went through with their 13 year old girl. I can understand their ethical and legal dilemma given the child had respiratory function and was physically responsive to touch - however, both neurological examinations determined she had in fact passed on.
I see the paper states; brain death concludes the death of the patient and it's the brain stem that's the last to go, halting any ability for the body to receive oxygen (although comma paints are different) - makes sense!
Yeah, totally for science getting toned on definitions like dead. But thereās so much assumption in NDEās on a persons experience whether under anesthesia or what the brain does to make you feel better when ānear deathā.
I don't know what type. I just know that it lasted a good while each time, it was nearly impossible to breathe and, at one point, I was in the hospital in an oxygen tent for a couple days. Thanks. I'd also been hit with a car 5 or 6 times but none of them were life threatening. Most were just minor bumps.
it was!! It was a day's work just to try to get a breath of air! I'd be soaked in sweat, even in the winter. You can't do anything but lay there gasping for air all day and every few minutes, you have to try to use that breath of air to cough up more of that greenish-yellow shit from your lungs so you can spit it out!! I hope I NEVER have to go through that, again!! No, not car crashes, cars hitting me as I was on foot. The first one was a cold winter night. I was maybe 10 years old and, we were out front playing It, in the snow. I ran across the street to get away from the person who was It just as a car was coming up and, because there was about an inch of ice on the street, the car couldn't stop in time and, I couldn't run any faster to get out of the way and he hit my right hip. Luckily, he was only going a few miles an hour. Next, I was 26, I was at the mall a mile from my house, it was about 10:00 p. m., I was walking home to get ready to go to my new job I just started a few days before. I got as far as the hospital right next to the mall when some asshole came off the road, hit me from behind and kept going!! He left me for dead! He fractured my left leg and took a huge chunk of skin out of my left elbow! I kept trying to flag people down to get me to the ER about a block behind me but, everyone would slow down and swerve around me and keep going!! I had to hop all the way there! Half the trip was uphill and, I took a short cut up the grassy hill. It was a warm Feb. so the grass was wet.
About 2 years later, I was in college and was walking along the street one sunny afternoon and saw this gorgeous girl walk past me and stopped to turn around to look at her and, while I was looking, this car came out of the parking lot on my left and ran over both of my feet with both tires!! By the time he was on my left foot, I was trying to pull that out and couldn't and he ran over my right foot a split second later. Before I could step out of the way, the same thing happened with the back tire. A few weeks later, I was walking home from the college on the way to the bus stop next to another mall. I crossed the street to go into the mall garage and, as I did, a car came out of the garage and just clipped my left leg but, it was just a slight bump. Didn't even bruise me. Seems to me there was a third one around that time but, I can't recall what it was. Another slight bump. Oh! Then there was the night a group of Oi Boys tried to set me on fire!!
