I was raised going to church. always thought Bible study was boring and went over the same tropes. and Jesus was god because he did all these miracles like multiplying fish, turning water into wine, and rising people from the Dead. but as I have learned about other mythos, I've realized there were already gods that did exactly what Jesus was said to have done. in fact there were early church writings on this issue that were destroyed by the medieval church, because it raised too many questions and it'd be better to just forget about all the other gods. what it seems like is that Jews created a new god that combined all the powers of the other gods into one

I was raised Catholic and exposed to comparative religions studies in college.

True, most gods have virgin birth and miracle stories, but it does appear that Jesus was a real person who was persecuted by Jews and Romans for his teachings of love and peace.

The stuff about rising from the dead, multiplying loaves and fishes, or making wine from water can't be proven. But that he was a holy and wise man seems a fact. Even Moslem people venerate him as a "prophet" and his mother Mary as "holy."

I find truths in most religions as well as giant errors. Only men can be priests? Gay people are wrong to be gay? Trans people too.

Jesus said, "Love one another as I have loved you..." Meaning unconditionally. Visit the sick, the aged, those in prison. Give of yourself. Treat all people with respect.

Those are the most important takeaways. The mythically similar stories are likely to be so similar to build upon other god myths and to win new believers.

there isn't concrete evidence it was around for very long before Christianity. possibly only 200 years as a widely practiced religion

Judaism dates back nearly 4,000 years. That's twice as long as Christianity has been around. It's literally one of the oldest religions.
