As religions Christianity has never been evil and Islam has always been evil. As far as what men do of their own accord that doesn't align with the faith that's not the religion that does that. That is men straying from their religion that does that. That said when you think of events like the crusades, you'll find horrific events that occur supposedly in the name of God, but when you look at the Templars more closely you'll find that they carry and worship many icons of Islam and are parts of secret societies which are banned by the church.
