I'm not generalizing or trying to vilify religious people, it really is a serious question.

Because human beings are not meant to be alone, or to go through life without a partner. Some religions -- not all of them -- forbid priests and nuns to have a partner. Some of them will look for one, even if it's against the 'rules' set by church, or will try and get close to an innocent young victim. And they should be called victims under all circumstances.

Sadly, chruch and religions in general have done little more than cover things up.

Be careful what you're calling "pedophilia". I've heard of 25 year old teachers going with 17 year old young men, and that's been called pedophilia.

No one is immune to temptation. I'm sure the Devil gives them more attention because of their affiliation with his enemy, God/Jesus. Plus they are made out as the bad chumps, even when someone is doing way worse things, for the same reason.

Because irreligious people don't have a check box to tick, when committing crimes like paedophilia.

In fact the only "box" they can tick is "fraud". Which is probably far worse than paedophilia. Mainly as you can catch and jail a nonce to keep them away. But a fraudster will keep stealing, even when put away.
