There are at least two images in this link that date back to at least the early 20th Century. The last image, Our Lady of Guadalupe, dates back to 1531.

You realize Rome controlled the Middle East in the time of Jesus right? Rome as in White people from Europe... Judea was a Roman province. Israel was not a big fan of being ruled by Rome at the time, but it was a fact of life. Many Israelites from Judea lived and worked throughout the Roman empire (Europe) and spoke Koine Greek at the time in addition to Hebrew. Koine Greek was the common tongue of the time in the Middle East, the aristocracy of the region spoke Latin. It wouldn't be until 600 years later when Muslims would rape and pillage their way through the Middle East, Africa, and parts of southern Europe that the Middle East woulds get it's current look and feel. It use to be run by the White man, but you win some and you lose some and people colonize your land when you get pushed out.

He was a Jew of Israel, and would've most likely had olive skin, brown hair and green or brown eyes. Neither pale white nor ebony black.
What ethnicity He has is not what is important. He is popularly depicted as white because it is of simple familiarity to the ethnicity which has championed and defended Christianity for a thousand years, the people of Europe.
