Yes. I did a week once in my teens. It was a memorable experience.

Quite frankly I am not sure I could do that willingly again. Nowadays I feel my stomach gets grumpy and hurts after just a couple of days.

Its healthy, when not done to excess. Obviously a week is dumb. But a day or so each month with no food? Pretty healthy.

The whole Ramadan, while I honestly applaud the idea of Ramadan, habit of feasting after midnight I feel is cheating, although you of course have to eat at some point. But it probably still helps to build some discipline and understand people less fortunate.

If you feel my comment spoke against fasting I hope you will just reread it. I outright state I support it - just not the dumb one week version I did as a kid.

As for Ramadan. Fasting throughout the day, while it certainly does some good in its intention to teach temperance and understanding of the less fortunate's situation, is a little undone by the normal feast after midnight. Now technically this feast is meant to include said unfortunates.

What are you objecting against? Please read what I actually wrote and let me know.

Ah. So I am actually writing that Feasting. Eating a lot. Is a bit like cheating. Feasting. Not fasting.

Normally during Ramadan you do not eat while the sun is up and after midnight it is common to instead eat a lot.

This I do consider to be slightly cheating. As it will spare people the experience of for example sleeping with your belly in pain and empty. However, not eating for a month also just would not work. There does need to be a compromise somewhere.

Yes, but an actual fast. Not eating while the sun's up isn't fasting.

You want to fast go with nothing but water for ten days. Longest I've done was 18 on water only but I've got friends who've done multiple 30 day fasts of everything but water.

@NathanDavis For some it means abstaining from food, while others also include drinking anything. I just started my yearly fast today, which lasts for 19 days and nothing is consumed from sunrise to sunset.

that would not make any good to my stomach... I usually eat four times a day, but smaller rations... going that long without a meal during daylight is a no-no for me... lol
