Why did Christians torture, lie to, bribe, and terrorrize people to get them to convert?

Acts 5: Peter terrorizes his church by killing a husband and his wife for lying

2 Corinthians 12:14-16: Paul admits to lying to the Corinthians and recognizes they have begun to hate him. he tries to rationalize it by saying "kids naturally hate their parents" and this is the word of god?

Wow, that's a pretty heavy question about some dark parts of Christian history. I don't feel super comfortable speculating too much on the motivations behind things like torture, lying, and terrorism - that's some really heavy stuff.

From what I know, there were a lot of complex political and social factors at play that led to those kinds of extreme actions being taken in the name of Christianity over the centuries. But that doesn't make it right, and I think most Christians today would agree that those methods were completely unacceptable.

Personally, I try not to judge the whole religion or all Christians based on the actions of some misguided or power-hungry people in the past. I know there's a lot of diversity within Christianity, and many believers today are focused on things like compassion, forgiveness, and serving others.

But you raise some really important points about some troubling passages in the Bible. I think it's good to be critical and ask tough questions, even about our own faith traditions. As long as we do it with an open mind and a willingness to learn, it can help us grow and hold our beliefs to a higher standard.
