What made you an atheists?

Not to come off rude or anything but how did you find out you are atheists and what led up to it?

Even though I struggle with severe doubts (after experiencing the deaths of some relatives and people I knew and studying how the human body works from a biological perspective) about the existence of a god, or an afterlife, atheism as a position have always seemed a bit too absolute to me.. Most atheists speak with mathematical certainty that god is just fiction or mythology born out of ignorance/fear of the unknown and used as a drug to control the masses, yet they fail to produce the necessary evidence to substantiate their claim, other than their own conviction.

Until any side produces compelling evidence, I'll remain in the middle, here in the position of agnosticism, waiting and leaving room to reexamine/reconsider my position, maybe some day in the future. Of course, I'd prefer if God does exist, cause reuniting with your beloved ones after death sounds way better than an eternal void

i feel like faith is about feeling and your relationship with that entity you believe you in. there just never was that for me and im fine with it

I didn't make a concious decision to become an athiest.

I was raised as a Christian, and my parents took me to church every Sunday. When I was about seven years old, I realized that the whole thing was a bunch of crap, and I never believed it. I just went, 'cause they made me.

Everyone kept telling me these stories about God, Jesus, Moses, etc, read me all the Bible stories, and I just sat there thinking, "Are they serious? I've read Dr Seuss stories more realistic than this garbage."

It just never made sense to me that all these people, all these adults, believed that nonsense. I didn't understand how that was possible. I kept waiting for someone, anyone, to prove ANY of it, and nobody ever did.

They told me I had to have faith, and I didn't understand how religion was any different that Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy. I didn't believe in them, either, and I didn't see how any of these people could believe in God.

So, at the ripe old age of seven years old, I begged my parents not to make me go to church anymore, because it was just soooo dumb to me. It's been 33 years since then, and I've never seen/heard anything to make me change my mind.

Technically agnostic, like most aethists, but for most intents and purposes aethist.

In my case I didn't grow up being taught to be or not be religious. I had friends and family of every faith. Around 11-13 I read the bible, old, new, added scriptures, had a muslim friend pick out which parts of the quran to read. Read some, not all, of the Torah for good measure. Spoke to quite a few priests - we lived next to one.

Having already done that I hopped into Hinduism and Buddhism too for good measure. Then, having gone through the big five looked into a bunch of lesser ones.

And at the end of it none of it spoke to me. Oh, most of them have good life lessons and sensible guiding lines. Nice philosophical questions and more. But so does most philosopher's and children stories.

I suppose in short I did my research. Decided there was nothing to it. Even if there had been how do I tell if it is that god or one of the other 400 ones that is right? Every believer believes theirs is right but the vast majority just believe whatever the dominant faith of their upbringing is. At that if everything points to indoctrination, it likely is indoctrination. Whigh does not make it bad by default, our entire society is made up of rules like that. However it does make it made up.

It's millions of reasons really. So I'll list a few.

1. The obvious one, no factual evidence exists and there is reason why it's called faith because it's hoping that Religion wasn't just a lie created by man without any evidence to say otherwise.

2. Humans lie linking to the first point, common sense people lie for power and control which history clearly shows religion's become cults and organisations that put people in power and control of society. Therefore the reason to lie about god and religion for own gain becomes obvious.

3. The paradox of perfection, nothing is perfect. Perfect is a perception we make, everyone has their own view of what's perfect. Therefore if perfect don't exist as an objective fact, a perfect entity such as god can't exist. It would be a constant paradox.

4. Now this point is highly subjective to the human and my perspective so I take this one more as a grain of salt, but still would make me opposed god. If god exists and he's so smart, loving and ya... know perfect as they claim why on earth would he create a world like this? A world full of misery? Starving kids? Cancer? Diseases? And remember the idea of god is he can do anything including ya know stopping whatever causes such things so we can't blame anything else for why this happens unlike god is powerless to it somehow.

Now why this is subjective to our view is perhaps for whatever reason god see's these things as good or needed since he's on a complete different level of understanding to us of course. However this only makes me dislike god if true because I'm a human of course living within this world filled with bad things he made on purpose and sure it's only bad to us I guess but that's actually to no shocker what I have to care about.

Like I said this a few, there is vastly more reasons why and I'd be here all day so ending my point now.

Atheists tend to be more logic, reasonable, they don't believe stories that sound more like fantasies.
Well, they have a point, especially when they were introduced to non sense religions in their past, religions were altered by man, ...

Look around u and u will see miracles everywhere, look inside u, ur biology, anatomy, I mean who could create something complicated like that , after thousands of years humans couldn't find any explanations, they couldn't cure some diseases, then who made us?

In my belief, only one religion that talks to people's minds and brains, it's more logical than the humans logic, reasonable, highlights proofs that God exists, challenges people to challenge God and creat one small fly 🪰 which apparently they can't. It also invites people to be good with each others, organise their lives...

The problem is some people don't want to change the way they're living, they don't want to be controlled by a religion, they don't wanna follow rules, they like the chaos, like to be drawn in desires like animals do.
Well u can't blame animals because they don't have logic 🤷

People don't "find out" that they are atheists. They realize that there is no evidence to support any religion. I was taken to Baptist Sunday School as a child, but I could never make sense of it. Then when I was 10 I read a Time-Life book on world religions. I thought to myself "Each thinks they have the truth and the others are wrong. There's only one reasonable answer -- they are all just myths." And that was it for me. I realized that there's no evidence for God, and at about 12 I stopped going. I've never looked back, never reconsidered because there's still no evidence.

Not 100% sure what atheist is but there is so many religions to choose from and taking the time to research them all is just something I can't do or rather don't allow time for but I do think there is something Devine out there but I also think that there is credibility to other spiritual things as well. I have no problem with anything people believe so long as they don't press it on me as if its xxxxx way or no other way.

I often ask questions to religious people that for me is just a question but they sometimes take offence or are just closed minded where as I am able to see the good things from most beliefs and relate to them

reading the bible in full made me an atheist. cause it's all a bunch of incoherent and morally indefensible bullshit. it's not all bad but i can derive better morals without that religion. plus i don't like that vein sort of egocentric maniac of a god they have in that faith. and if you deal with a few other faiths out there you find it's all pretty much the same bullshit with little variety. all claiming there's some all powerfull but unknowable being that somehow makes it such that you should listen to what they're telling you. a pretty cheap scam in my opinion.

You're asking why I don't have something I never had.
When I was a kid and I first learnt about religion, I immediately wrote it off as a joke. I thought "No way would anyone seriously believe anything so stupid". I was about 5 when I thought that. And when I learnt people really do believe in magic sky-daddies and books of insane bullsh! t... it turned my life into a horror story. By age 7 I was terrified of religious people as they seemed so completely out of touch with reality that they could do just about anything...
While I've learnt not to be so afraid of the religious (and society has become MORE afraid of them), I still regard all of them with disgust and avoid them wherever possible.

The hypocrisy of the christian church. The religion that boasts to be the most loving and forgiving is simultaneously the loudest voice against social progress, refusing to acknowledge certain groups as people if they don’t fall into their specific lifestyle. When I started to ask questions about why this was, I didn’t like the answers I received.

I don't think the onus should be on proving something doesn't exist, but rather proof that something does.

With all these religions floating around, how do you know yours is the right one?

Also, because religion has been around forever in different forms but always has the sole purpose of controlling people and making money.

For me it was when my religious rituals and rites started to make logical sense. I saw that what we were doing in the name of God was just to live in a certain lifestyle that was common sense in those times. For example: most of our festivals were based on harvest, new crop etc. So the "religious" offering was also based on the season and harvest. Which made sense. It had nothing to do with God.

Being rejected by both sides of my "family". Never being accepted by anyone especially my parents. All of my relatives hating me because my grandfather was in the military. My teachers bullying me. Never being in a relationship with a woman. My own research into religions. I know the Bible and Quran and the Torah are lies. Jesus and Mohammed were frauds and that If there truly is a creator being we're nothing more than ants in an ant farm. We mean nothing to it. Or it's completely evil.
