If God punishes me for small flaws, God will punish murderers for big flaws. I believe in God because God responds to my behaviour and my choices in different ways.
Simple. That is what the Church calls final impenitence. Final impenitence is what is called blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. Jesus said "Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven" (Matthew 12.31). In the next verse, he also says that blasphemy against the Holy Ghost will not be forgiven, "neither in this world, nor in the world to come."
The Council of Florence stated in it's sixth session in 1439 that "The souls of those who depart this life in actual mortal sin, or in original sin alone, go down straight away to Hell to be punished, but with unequal pains." This means those who, to their last breath and beat of their heart, at the moment their soul departed their body, refused God's mercy and forgiveness. And yes, that means those who commit murder and never regret it.
The judge who controls hell sent a message who he will judge to send there. "the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire." Matthew 3,10-12 and 5,22.
