Me! St. Agnes of Rome, January 21•
Agnes was born in Rome, 291 AD, and raised in a wealthy Christian family. Agnes was very beautiful and her hand in marriage was highly sought after. Accounts of her life indicate she had many high ranking men chasing after her, but whenever a man wished to marry her, she would reply, “Jesus Christ is my only Spouse.”
Insulted by her purity and devotion to God they began to submit her name to authorities as a Christian follower.
Governor’s son became very angry when she refused him.
He then sent her to a place of sin, where an Angel protected her from harm, and last, he condemned her to death.
Then she prayed and bowed her head for the death-stroke of the sword.
She died a virgin-martyr at the age of 12 or 13 on 21 January 304.
