When did you give up on religion?

I gave up on religion when I was little. Growing up poor I saw terrible things. My father was abusive and my mom didn't care. If god or Jesus truly loved me he would have given me a better life. They seem to reward evil people by giving them lots of money and nice safe places to live. They hate poor people and condemned them to hell. To me if there is a god it's either evil or completely indifferent. It's definitely sadistic and cruel and rewards evil greatly.

I never really bought into religion, so it wasn't something I gave up on.

My parents used to take me to church every Sunday, and I always hated it. I thought it was a waste of time, and I never saw the point, because I never believed any of it.

I was six years old when I finally asked them if I could stop going. At that age, I couldn't really articulate my reasoning very well, but they seemed to understand that religion just wasn't for me, at all. So they hired a babysitter to stay with me for a couple hours, and I never had to go back.

Too emotional. Your parents made a baby so you were born, that was all them not god. 'given me a better life' is wrong your abusive pa had free will to choose. God doesn't take away choice. All the problems were your parents.

I left the church at 16, I was agnostic until 28, then I found my spirituality again. I just needed to separate myself from the popular dogmas and find it another way.

I never really gave up on it because I wasn't raised religious. And I totally agree with you.

Actually I never gave in to religion. No one in my family's last four generations does.

i don't consider it a thing i "gave up". cause that emplies it was worth keeping. i just left it behind cause it was an absolutely pointless drag on my life.
