I believe we have no evidence to support that belief. Or any understanding of a mechanism that could make it a reality. But that doesn't necessarily prove our spirits are not eternal. The correct answer is we don't know. But we do know our bodies are not eternal.

  this is the one thing all religions agree: human life has a spirit that outlives body and lives forever.
  still hindu adds it WAS eternal infinite too. but christians believe it was created with a beginning.

Spirits don't exist. Ego does. Ego is just a software that runs on the computer that is our brain. Once you destroy a computer does the software that ran on it still exist? I'd say that's pretty much equivalent.
