Does Abraham’s refusal of Sodom’s wealth guide using family connections in careers?

In the bible, Abraham says to the kingdom of Sodom, that

"I will accept nothing belonging to you..., so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abraham rich.’ So my question is, "Does this quotation by Abraham in the bible, reflect modern times as well?"

I was thinking, that I plan on starting my career without using a single family connection from my dad's contact list. That way, nobody other than God and my own hands, will be able to take credit for my achievements.

Why are you worried what other people will think. So if your god offered you a hand would you not take it? The connections are not what will bring you “success”. There just a foot in the door. But all that said. isn't wealth a sin?
